VFW to host 'Remembering Our Fallen' dedication Saturday

Special ceremonies at 10 a.m. Saturday will commemorate and dedicate the opening of the “Remembering Our Fallen” from Texas exhibit at Cameron VFW Post 2010.
“Remembering Our Fallen” is a war memorial consisting of individual state exhibits created to remember the country’s fallen in The War on Terror since the Twin Towers fell on September 11, 2001.
Cameron VFW Post 2010 is hosting the exhibit through Sept. 15. Each individual state exhibit includes military and personal photos of our Fallen who called that state home and died from wounds suffered in the war zone while wearing our country’s uniform. Included are tributes to Yoe High School graduates 2nd Lt. Darryn Andrews and Master Sgt. Charles Price, both killed in combat in Afghanistan.
Everyone is invited to attend the ceremonies and view the exhibit. A barbecue meal will be served following the program. The exhibit will be open to the public for viewing through next Tuesday.
Saturday’s service will feature several Congressman Bill Flores and Brigadier General Mark C. Schwartz, Deputy Commanding General for Maneuvers, 1st Calvary Divisions, among others.
VFW Post Commander Tom Wiley and Auxiliary President Diana Parker coordinated Saturday’s program, dedicated to “The men and women of all wars.”
The 1st Cavalry Jazz Ensemble will open the program. Pastor Brad Dusenberry will give the opening prayer and Cameron Mayor Connie Anderle will give the welcome. County Judge David Barkemeyer will also speak.
Prior to his arrival at the 1st Cavalry Division earlier this summer, Brigadier General Schwartz served as the Deputy Commanding General for Operations, Special Operations Joint Task Force -Afghanistan from April 2014 to June 2015. He has completed multiple combat deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and multiple deployments in support of Special Operations in the U.S. Central Command and U.S. Africa Command areas of responsibility.
Rep. Flores is serving in his third term representing the 17th Congressional District of Texas, which covers portions of Central Texas from Waco to Bryan/College Station to north Austin. For the 114th Congress, Flores was elected by his fellow conservative colleagues to serve as Chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), the largest caucus in the U.S. Congress and an influential group of House Republicans committed to economic opportunity, national security, fiscal responsibility, American values and limited government. Additionally Flores serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. During his first two terms in the 112th and 113th Congresses, he served on the House Budget, Veterans Affairs, and Natural Resources committees.

As part of the program, VFW member Larry Dulin and Auxiliary President Parker will conduct the POW-MIA ceremony and the officers of the Cameron Police Department and Milam County Sheriff’s Department will provide a 21-gun salute.
