In opening weekend performances, Milam Community Theater’s fall production of “Noises Off!” had theater goers rolling in the aisles.
A classic British farce by Michael Frayn, “Noises Off!” is a play about a play where backstage antics and relationships threaten to wreck the actual performance. Once the lights come up, there is no break in the comedy as “Noises Off!” actors rehearse at the last minute trying to open an already questionable play (“Nothing On”) about doors and, of all things, sardines.
“That’s what it’s all about. Doors and sardines. Getting on — getting off. Getting the sardines on — getting the sardines off. That’s farce. That’s the theater. That’s life.” exclaims frustrated Nothing On director Lloyd, in one scene.
“There’s much more to this show than simply doors and sardines because there’s never a lull in the action. Top-notch acting and directing makes Noises Off! a truly fun show to see.” said Colleen Waring, a member of Milam Community Theater. “I literally had tears rolling down my face for the entire show. It’s that funny.”
“Noises Off!” continues this weekend with two more performances at the Williams Event Center in Cameron. Doors open at 6:30, curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. The Sunday, Nov. 15, matinee performance, doors open at 1:30 p.m. and curtain goes up at 2 p.m.
Tickets for “Noises Off!” may be purchased at the door for $15 (students with current ID $12).
