Robert Edgar ‘Bob’ Newton

Robert Edgar ‘Bob’ Newton

Bob Newton passed from this life on Nov. 9, at home and in the presence of his family.

He was born in Maysfield in Milam County on November 22, 1927 to Roy and Eulalia “Sis” Newton.
Bob graduated from Yoe High School in Cameron before attending college in Harlingen. He began his career at Dow Chemical in Freeport. He then enlisted in the United States Navy and served two years as a submariner near the end of World War II.
Following his service in the Navy, he joined the Texas Highway Department and began a 22-year career at the Texas Highway Department. He then founded his own company, RENCO Supply Inc. Working originally from his home garage, he built RENCO into a successful highway safety and supply company. RENCO was eventually relocated to Pflugerville.
For many years, he and Dolly owned a home on Lake Austin that served as a meeting place for family and friends. Gran-Gran, as he was known to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taught many of them to waterski - the oldest of them behind a treasured vintage Chris-Craft.
Throughout his life, he maintained his ties to Maysfield and upon retiring from his business career, he and Dolly moved from Austin and renovated the childhood home built by his parents. For 21 years, he enjoyed raising cattle and managing improvements to the farm where he was born.
He is survived by his wife Dolly, daughter Belinda Beyer and her husband Ron, daughter Debbie Zigal and husband Bryan, daughter Pam Menking and son Myron Menking and wife Laura along with seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the many nurses and doctors who provided such compassionate and professional care over the last few weeks.
Funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with visitation preceding the service
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Maysfield Presbyterian Historical Association, the Pebble Grove Cemetery Association or to the charity of your choice.
