Sherry Mueck, winner of last week's GOP primary, took the oath of office as interim tax assessor-collector Monday during a special meeting of the Milam County Commissioners Court.
Mueck will fill the remaining months of the term of former tax assessor-collector Kolette Morgan.
Because there were no Democratic candidates fo the position, Mueck faces no opposition in the November general election and will take office for her own term Jan. 1, 2017. Commissioners voted to appoint the Republican nominee to fill the vacancy.
County employees, friends and family attended the ceremonies at the courthouse.
More details will be featured in this week's print edition of The Cameron Herald.
