FFA, 4-H Youth shine in annual livestock show

While the books are still closing on the 2016 Milam County Livestock Show, organizers are happy with another successful event.
One hundred 4-H and FFA exhibitors qualified for this year’s premium sale concluding the show Saturday night. Sale proceeds have already topped $200,000 while tallying continues through this week with added money and donations still being accepted. 
Weather ranged from unseasonably warm on opening night to wet and chilly on April Fools morning to bright and sunny Friday afternoon and Saturday.
Preliminary sales figures, before added money include:
Grand champion steer exhibited by Taije Schroeder, Thorndale 4H, sold for almost $7,500. The reserve champion shown by Mason Leifeste, Cameron 4H, sold for $7,000.
Grand champion swine, shown by Kenan Mingus, Cameron 4H, sold for $5,200. Hadley Meadors, Thorndale 4H, sold  her swine at the reserve champion level for $2,100. Mingus exhibited both grand and reserve champion, but show rules stipulate only one animal may be sold per exhibitor, allowing Meadors to sell her third-placing swine at the reserve level.
The 2015 grand champion lamb, shown by Kinley Meadors, Thorndale 4H, sold for $5,400. The reserve champion shown by Logan Fisher, Thorndale FFA, sold for $2,100.
JW Hollas, Cameron 4-H, sold his grand champion broilers for $1,500. The reserve champion shown by Heath Hollas, Cameron 4H, was sold for $1,975.
The grand champion rabbits were shown by Ethan Schramm, Thorndale 4H, and sold for $1,800. The reserve champion rabbits shown by Dylan Granados, Cameron 4H, sold for $1,600.
Grand champion turkey shown by Karsen Galvan, Cameron FFA, sold for $2,100. Reserve champion shown by Corey Preusse, Thorndale 4H, sold for $1,500.
Grand champion goat exhibited by Kaylee Jackson, Thorndale 4-H, sold for $3,100. Savannah Garcia, Thorndale 4H, sold her goat at the reserve level $1,900.
Taije Schroeder exhibited the reserve champion goat, but chose to sell her grand champion steer, allowing Savannah Garcia to sell her third-placing goat at the reserve champion level.
These totals are preliminary - total sale proceeds will be published next week.
