Milam Community Theater prepares for summer show opening

Maurice Goza and John Nelson work on set construction for MCT’s production of Greater Fatty Bottoms

With less than 12 days left until opening, actors, stage crew and volunteers hustle to construct the set for Milam Community Theater’s summer show, Greater Fatty Bottoms.

“It’s going to be a tight squeeze, getting this set built,” said Vicki Goza, producer of Greater Fatty Bottoms. “The Williams Event Center has been booked much of the summer and it wasn’t until July 17 that we could begin constructing the set. But, we’ve got a great bunch of folks helping us and they are ready to get going.”

Since auditions were completed in early June, director Joe Reynolds ‘blocked’ (theater-speak for “specific locations on stage where the actors move and perform”) the play’s action with strategically positioned folding chairs and a few key props.

Greater Fatty Bottoms is a comedy by Waco playwright Robert Brown. In the town of Greater Fatty Bottoms, everyone is a little cuckoo: the short order cook is blind, the radio station broadcasts from a booth at the truck stop and the rivalry with Lesser Fatty Bottoms never ends. Greater Fatty Bottoms will have the audience in nonstop laughs as a stream of ‘celebrities’ visit the town in search of relief.

Greater Fatty Bottoms opens at the Williams Event Center in Cameron on Saturday, July 30. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a coffee and pie reception and curtains up at 7 p.m. Performances continue on Sunday, July 31, when doors open at 1:30 p.m. and curtains up at 2 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 6, when doors open at 6:30 p.m., curtains up at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 7, when doors open at 1:30 p.m., curtains up at 2 p.m.

Tickets for Greater Fatty Bottoms may be purchased at the door for $15; $12 for students with ID.
