Camps held, practices begin Monday

Cheerleader camp: Approximately 85 campers attended the cheer leading camp last Saturday from the Yoe High Gym. Yoe High students, Cameron Junior High students and cheerleader sponsor Alma Cardona put on the camp and led the instruction of routines. On Saturday evening, the campers put on a performance for parents and members of the community.

Pre-school activities begin next week. Here's a schedule:

Meet  Yoe Coaches

As the 2016 fall sports season kicks off, the annual “Meet the Coaches” event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at Yoe High School Cafeteria. 

Fall sports athletes and their parents should attend the event.

Practice begins Monday, Aug. 1, for both football and volleyball.

The first intra-squad scrimmage is scheduled Saturday, Aug. 6, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Yoe Field

The annual “Meet the Yoemen” event is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Performing Arts Center.

Picture day for fall sports teams will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, from 8 a.m. to noon on Yoe Field.

Band uniform fittings

Uniform fittings for those set to participate in Yoe Band will be held Saturday, July 30. 

Juniors and seniors should report from 8 a.m. to noon, while freshmen and sophomores should report from 1 to 5 p.m. Students will be fitting for both marching and concert season uniforms and need to bring their registration forms and t-shirt money when they arrive. 

Registration forms can be printed out from the Yoe Band section of the Cameron ISD website. 

Rehearsals begin at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1.

CISD open house events

Open house events are scheduled at Cameron ISD campuses:

Cameron Elementary, Aug. 16, 5-6:30 p.m. 

Cameron Junior High, Aug. 16, 6-7:30 p.m.

Ben Milam Elementary, Aug. 18, 5:30-7 p.m.

C. H. Yoe High School, Aug. 23, 6-7:30 p.m.

Kindergarten round-up

Kindergarten, pre-kindergaten and Head Start round-up for Cameron ISD will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ben Milam Elementary. 

Programs are offered for qualifying 4-year-olds and 3-year-olds (1/2-day); tuition-based classes for 4-year-olds and all day Head Start for 3-4 year-olds. Parent should bring their driver’s license and proof of residency, along with their child’s immunization record and state copy of birth certificate/social security card. Families enrolling qualifying students are asked to bring SNAP/TANF award letter, proof of income from the previous month, including weekly, bi-weekly and monthly pay stubs.

Summer meals

Feeders of the Lambs is a group of Cameron-area citizens looking to provide free meals to children now that the Cameron ISD summer meals program has ended.

Meals are served at the playground at Cameron Elementary School and at the Episcopal church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on weekdays through Aug. 19.
