Iverson Westbrook breaking away and scoring on an 83-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
A lot of times, a game is a tale of two halves. We got exactly that on Friday night from McKamie Stadium in Gatesville, as a dog fight through the first half of play ended up being a 69-31 victory for Cameron when it was all said and done.
Throughout the first half of play, both teams traded shots as the lead went back and forth a total of seven different times. While Gatesville was able to put up more traditional drives, the Yoemen had big strikes. That was highlighted by Sicory Smith's 98-yard touchdown return just before the half ended to give the Yoemen the 27-24 lead.
QB Jett Truss and the Gatesville offense picked up right where they left off in the first half as the shifty quarterback scored on a 27-yard run to give Gatesville the lead (31-27) back with 3:00 minutes left in the third. Tress finished the game with a team high 135 yards rushing.
It's not how you start, but it's how you finish, and the Yoemen were certainly able to finish this game off. In the next 15 minutes of play, Cameron would score a combined six different times, putting up a blistering 42 points to end the contest.
Three of those touchdowns were thanks to the duo of QB Zack Andress and receiver Sicory Smith. The combo connected on 34-yard, 46-yard and 11-yard strikes. Iverson Wesbtrook also showed his explosiveness in the third with an 83-yard run over the right side.
Meanwhile, the Yoe defense really stepped up their play in the fourth quarter. Defensive back Levi May put up the last two touchdowns of the game by intercepting and returning two (37-yard and 43-yard) passes to the end zone.
