Coming off of last week's tough 63-13 loss to 4A power China Spring, the Yoemen needed to respond.  It took just over three quarters of play in Friday's night Homecoming contest, but the Yoemen finally took the lead over Bay City and never relinquished it, winning 30-27.

Coming into Friday's action, Bay City had used the big play and speed to their advantage.  That theme continued on a humid night from Yoe Field as the Black Cats used big plays to strike early.  Daryl Florez, which played on the 2014 state championship Yoemen team, caught a pair of (63-yard, 76-yard) passes from QB Dylan Davidson to put the Yoemen in an early hole, 14-0.

The Yoe offense got going in the second as QB Zack Andress would find Jordan Wells for a 9-yard TD catch to cut the lead down to 14-7.  The momentum for the Yoemen only lasted a few seconds as Prinard Payne, the Bay City return man, took the kickoff 80 yards to the end zone to extend the lead back to 20-7.

Later in the second, Cameron had the Black Cats back deep in their own territory in a fourth and long situation.  The punt was blocked, but the Yoemen could not recover in the end zone as the ball skipped out of bounds.  The lead was trimmed to 20-9 at that point.  Cameron managed to put one final drive together before the end of the half with Andress connecting with WR Sicory Smith from 10 yards out,  bringing the deficit back to three at 20-17.

The Black Cats took the second half kickoff and once again struck on a big play.  This time it was Davidson to WR Christian Sauceda on a 48-yard bomb.  However, Westbrook and the Yoe special teams unit returned the favor from earlier in the game with a 70-yard kickoff return over the right side to push the game to 27-23 after a failed extra point attempt.

Smith would close out the scoring, catching an 8-yard pass from Andress to put Cameron up for good.  The Yoe defense stepped up in a big way in the second half, allowing only the early score in the third.

Susy Cardona was named the Homecoming Queen.
