Lady Yoe host dig pink game

District play continued for the Lady Yoe last week.  Cameron was on the road at Franklin on Friday to wrap up the first half of 20-3A action before returning home on Tuesday to host Rogers in the big Dink Pink game.

 

Last year, C.H. Yoe High School was recognized by Side-Out as one of top fundraising schools for breast cancer research.  According to the organization, thousands of volleyball players, coaches, and families in all 50 states join together to participate in the program.   

 

Cameron had raised $34,000 from 2010 up to 2014.  The events have gotten bigger every year, and in 2015 the Lady Yoe raised $14,555 for cancer research, good enough for fifth in the country.

On Tuesday night, there were a variety of fundraising events.  Those included a raffle, silent auction, donations and concession stand food.  

 

On Oct. 7, Dig Pink will be at the Yoe football game against Jarrell with a balloon walk and pass the bucket.  On Oct. 21, Dig Pink will be at the Yoe football game against Academy with pass the bucket.  On Oct. 25, there will be a Junior High Dig Pink Bake Sale at Yoe Gym during the volleyball game against Franklin.

 

Franklin

The Lady Yoe took on Franklin on Friday, falling 7-25, 7-25, 12-25.  The ladies struggled to generate a consistent offensive threat, successfully getting over just 10 kills attempts.  Gracen Dach had half (five) of those kills.  Marly Spink contributed with three kills and Ashlee Balch had two.  

 

Darci Denio had eight assists while Jazmin Vaculin (seven), Carley Tucker (six) and Madison Brunson (six) were team leaders in digs.  Daiya Braziel did have two blocks.

 

The Lady Yoe JV (13-25, 12-25) and freshmen (10-25, 22-25) both fell to Franklin.

 

Rogers

Denio got the ladies off to a nice start, getting across an ace to begin the opening set versus Rogers.  The Lady Eagles did not take long to rebound, going on a 8-1 run to force a Lady Yoe timeout.  

 

Kruse cut the lead to 10-3 with a kill but Rogers would continue to control the set and win, 25-10.  

 

An attacking error from Rogers gave Cameron the 1-0 lead in the second.  Down 8-3, Kruse went on a six service win streak to give the ladies a 9-8 lead.  Rogers closed out on a 17-5 run to win the set, 25-14.    

 

The trend of starting hot continued into the third as the ladies went up 5-2.  However, Rogers has only lost one game in district play for a reason and managed to close out the match, 25-13.  

 

Kruse returned to the Lady Yoe lineup and led the team in kills with four.  Kenzie Wimmer and Balch each had two.  Denio had four assists.  Kruse also led the team in digs with 10 and aces with three.
