Week 7 Football Outlook

Jarrell (1-5/0-2) Vs. Cameron Yoe (5-1/2-0)

The Yoemen are coming off of an emotional 42-38 victory over a top five Franklin team in week six.  Jarrell is on the opposite end of the spectrum, winning just one game this season.  Sometimes you expect a let down in games of this nature, but Cameron does not want to go into the big Battle of the Bell game with a sluggish performance.  There is potential to have an ample amount of success on each side of the ball.  The biggest key at this point is to work on improving the all-around game and staying healthy.

Josh's Pick: Cameron Yoe by 28+

Around Milam County

Milano (1-4) Vs. Bartlett (3-2)

Looking at records alone, some would consider Bartlett to be the favorite here.  However, Milano has played the much tougher schedule and that usually pays off when district play rolls around.  The Eagles won this game a year ago, 27-0.

Josh's Pick: Milano by 17.

Thorndale (1-4) Vs. Normangee (0-5)

Combined, these two teams have only won one game in 10 attempts.  Normangee has struggled on offense much of the year, scoring 14 or less in four of their five games.  Thorndale, much like Milano, has played a very tough non-district schedule and that should pay off in this game.

Josh's Pick: Thorndale by 14.

Buckholts (1-3) Vs. Fayette County HSCH (2-3)

Buckholts lost a heartbreaker to Round Rock Christian (65-59) in week six.  The Badgers had just under 500 yards of total offense but could not get enough stops defensively to pull out the win.  Prairie Lea, a team in the Badgers district, did defeat HSCH in week three, 56-33.

Around 10-3A

Franklin (5-1/1-1) Vs. McGregor (2-3/0-1)

I expect Franklin to play extremely well after losing for the first time at home in 20 games.  The Lions have one of the strongest ground games in the state, and it’s going to take an extremely talented defensive front to limit the scoring of the high-powered rushing attack.  For McGregor to have a shot, they need to take what Franklin will be willing to give them through the air.

Josh's Pick: Franklin by 24.

Rockdale (4-1/1-0) Vs. Troy (3-3/1-1)

Rockdale made sure there was not another upset from Academy last week, easily winning, 56-13.  The Tigers were able to expose the Bees secondary with three touchdown passes in the first half.  If there has been a weakness for the Trojans, it has been in the secondary.  Troy will need to limit the big plays in order to have a shot here.

Josh's Pick: Rockdale by 24.

Around the State

Sunnyvale (5-0) Vs. Dallas Madison (5-0)

Sunnyvale has moved to a high as #2 in some statewide 3A DI polls.  The Raiders have defeated McGregor in non-district and took down Grandview and their powerful passing attack to open up district play a few weeks ago.  Madison is one of the surprise teams in the classification.  The Raiders will be favored, but this will let us know how good Madison is.

Josh's Pick: Sunnyvale by 14.

Coldspring (1-3) Vs. Kirbyville (4-2)

Both of these teams should make the playoffs out of 11-3A.  Kirbyville had a big showdown with Woodville last week and lost, 38-6.  Coldspring got off to a rough start to the season, but should finish no worse than third in the district.  A Coldspring win would more than likely setup a showdown with Woodville on the last week of the season for the district title. Cameron's district has the potential to meet up with these teams in the second round of the playoffs.

Josh's Pick: Coldspring by 7.
