Cameron hosts cross country meet

On Monday, hundreds of runners from across Central Texas competed in the Cameron Invitational from the Junior High campus.  This was the final tuneup for many teams before district gets underway next week.

 

The Yoemen had four runners compete at the varsity level.  Jose Osorio continued his string of strong performances, coming in  8th place finish with a time of 17:47.  Rico Bolivar (57th, 21:46), Joe Uvalle (61st, 22:22) and Eric Rojas (66th, 22:44) all ran for Cameron. 

 

“Jose is a bright spot,” said Yoe cross country head coach Dale Keen.  “Rico usually runs better, but his asthma is bothering him a lot today.  All we can do at district is line them up and run and see what happens.  Jose should have a really good chance to get to regionals.”

 

Parker Jones of Milano finished second overall at 16:41. 

 

Thorndale had Jacob Williamson (24th, 19:14), Mason Drumm (36th, 20:10) and Logan O’Campo (47th, 21:06) all run at the varsity level. 

 

For the JV, Buckholts had four runners compete.  Christian Kessler (33rd 24:25.8), Luke Trevino (36th, 25:26.2), Jeffery Ruiz (37th, 25:49.2) and Jacob Hernandez (38th, 25:52.0) ran for the Badgers. 

 

For the girls, Frances Sims led the Lady Yoe with a 27th place finish and a time of 14:18.  Patience Adcock (64th, 16:38), Harlie Halpain (72nd, 17:25) and ORsa Valles (80th, 18:59) all ran at the varsity level. 

 

“On the girls side, if Frances will get a tiny bit more motivated, I think she has a chance to be in the top ten at district,” said Keen.  “This was only her second varsity experience today.”

 

Little River Academy won the girls division.  Jenna Brazeal was the top overall finisher (12:18) for the Lady Bees.

 

Peyton Anastas (3rd, 12:44.0), Presley Anastas (14th, 13:35.5), Ashton Kiesling (21st, 13:55.7), Landry Laywell (24th, 14:07.7), Kylie Buchannan (30th, 14:28.7), Hadley Holder (45th, 15:14.5), Devin Dickerson (55th, 15:46.4), Rainey Buchanan (58th, 16:02.8), Ariana Anders (62nd, 16:22.5), Blair McDaniel (67th, 16:56.7) and Cheyenne Winkler (82nd, 20:27.0) all ran for the second place Thorndale team. 

 

Milano was sixth as a team with Zoe Bitsole (22nd, 13:57), Faith Walton (26nd, 14:10), Emilie Compton (43rd, 15:08), Bethanie Compton (51st, 15:32) and Ashley Gongora (63rd, 16:32) all running.
