Lady Yoe pick up win in final stretch of season

The 2016 Lady Yoe Volleyball season has been a learning experience under first year head coach Kamol Nohe.  District records are not exactly where the team would like them to be, but continuous improvement has been a key point all season.

The ladies had picked up their lone win of the district season in Hearne last month. After Friday’s tough loss to rival Rockdale, the Lady Yoe built some more confidence with a 3-0 sweep of Hearne on Tuesday.

Rockdale

In Friday’s road match at Rockdale, the Lady Yoe battled to take a set, but ended up falling three sets to one: 19-25, 22-25, 25-15, 17-25.

Cameron’s Savannah Kruse had one of her best matches of the year, getting across 17 kills to go along with 17 assists.  The senior also had 11 digs and one block on the night.

Freshmen standout Carley Tucker also had a solid match, knocking over nine kills to go along with 15 digs.  Darci Denio tied Kruse for the team lead in assists at 17.  Daiya Braziel had two blocks and Gracen Dach had one ace.

Hearne

The Lady Yoe started out Tuesday’s action with a 9-4 lead in the opening set, forcing a timeout from Hearne.

Cameron upped the lead to 18-7 after two powerful kills by Braziel.  The ladies went on to win the set, 25-13.

The Lady Yoe were hot from the service line in set number two.  Denio had a total of nine aces on the evening, getting many of those across in a 25-10 win.

“I think we are slowly developing the consistency and confidence,” said Lady Yoe head coach Kamol Nohe.  “We are focusing on the technique instead of going in there and just swinging hard.  When the kids focus on the technique, their service and location is automatic.”

Denio continued her hot streak to begin the third, getting the Lady Yoe out to a 3-0 lead.  Cameron continued to cruise to the sweep, 25-11.

“I thought the kids did a great job,” said Nohe.  “We had a game plan going into it and I wanted us to accomplish certain things.  We had those check marks going so the kids did a really great job today.”

Kruse had a team high seven kills.  Kruse and Denio had eight assists.  Jazmin Vaculin led the way with 13 digs and Kruse had five aces.

Two matches remain

The Lady Yoe have two matches remaining on the season.  Both will be at home as Academy comes to Cameron on Friday followed by Franklin on Tuesday.

“I hope that we can stay competing,” stated Nohe.  “When we play against teams that are really strong, it's easy for us to get down.  I want us to compete regardless of what the score is.”
