Billy Ray Barrett Sr.

Billy Ray Barrett Sr., 82, of Cameron, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at his home.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Oak Hill Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Glynn Cummings officiating.  Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 18, from 6-8 p.m.  at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.

Mr. Barrett was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Cameron to James Calvin and Bertha (Houston) Barrett. He married Peggy Ann Spivey on Jan. 8, 1955. Mr. Barrett had been self-employed in the construction industry, had owned and operated Shady Oaks in Cameron and had worked for the City of Abilene. 

His daughter, Brenda Barrett, preceded him in death as did three siblings. 

He is survived by: his wife, Peggy Barrett of Cameron; son, Billy Ray Barrett Jr.  and wife Karen of Temple; daughter, Deborah Kay Bagley and husband Mickey of Robinson; eight grandchildren, Billy Ray Barrett III, Heather Renee Ward, Lindsey Nichole Tatum, Michelle Marshall, Crystal Welsh, Nickey Tucker, Deziree Scott and Joe Dylan Hernandez; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.
