Mardi Gras Bash to raise funds for Holcombe Scholarship fund on Feb. 25

The 5th annual Mardi Gras bash will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, at Simon George Hall, 401 S. Karnes, in Cameron. 

The event, which will start at 6 p.m., will include a Cajun food dinner, auctions including a gun raffle and activities for the kids. Adult tickets are $10 and children under 18 are $5. 

Tickets may be purchased at the Milam County Extension Office in Cameron, the Rockdale Reporter, and Rodenbeck Farm & Ranch in Thorndale.

Organizers of this year’s Mardi Gras Bash have announced some of this year’s auction items which include an aerial tour of Cameron in a Cessna 182 donated by Ranspot-Cobb Flying Service. Other items include a prime rib dinner for 15 donated by Jerry and Agnes Kostroun, a Spider-Man V6 Power Wheels toy and a box of Black Label Cigars worth $250 donated by Stephanie Varga.

Over the past four years a total of $53,000 in scholarships has been given to college students from Milam County as as result of the Mardi Gras event. 

For those who can’t attend the Mardi Gras event cash donations are also accepted.  The Mardi Gras bash was established to raise money for college scholarships to honor longtime Milam County Extension Agent Christine Holcombe.

William Iselt of Thorndale is pursuing a civil engineering degree at Texas Tech.

A’Ja Reynolds of Cameron is studying Psychology at Sam Houston State University.

CharLissa Foster of Cameron would like to be a counselor once she gets her degree from Stephen F. Austin. 

Kimberly Leschber of Thorndale wants to become a physical therapist and is attending the University of Texas medical branch.

Tyler Dent of Cameron wants to be a Computer Engineer and is a student at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor.

Emily McCoy of Rockdale is studying nursing at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor.

Kaley Dodd of Rockdale is studying Political Science at Texas A&M Kingsville and wants to become a lawyer.

Autumn Davenport of Rockdale attends Texas A&M and wants to become a certified nurse anesthesiologist. 

Madeline Kostroun of Cameron who is pursuing a career in horticulture attends Texas A&M University.

Ethan Biar of Thorndale is studying Agricultural Services Development at Tarleton State University.

Jacob Biar of Thorndale is studying Agricultural Services Development at Tarleton State University.

Trevor Moore of Cameron is studying Business Computer Information systems at the University of North Texas.

Maeson Mondrik of Cameron who wants to become a teacher and attends Texas A&M University.

William Dean of Rockdale isstudying economics at Texas A&M University.

The scholarship is open to students who have completed at least one year of college work and graduated from a Milam County high school or must be a former Milam County resident.
