Kruse signs with Texas Lutheran University
Service Directory
On Feb. 17, the total number of Yoe High athletes signed to play at the next level went to four as Savannah Kruse officially signed with Texas Lutheran to play volleyball.
Kruse has been one of the main threats for Cameron the past two years and wrapped up her career as a first team all-district selection.
“I voted for her as MVP,” said Lady Yoe volleyball coach Kamol Nohe. ‘She is one of those players that has passion to play. She did everything I asked her to do. I needed her to do certain things that were awkward and maybe different than what she was used to, and she didn’t hesitate. She was ready to perform up to her best.”
Though Nohe has only worked with Kruse for one year, he feels the soon-to-be Lucky will be successful at the next level.
“She is the sweetest girl. Watching her play, it’s hard to tell. She has strong faith and she loves the game and the kids she plays with. I wish I had more time to work with her. She is going somewhere to play and we wish her the best. Where she is going to play, she’ll be an asset.”
Below is reaction from Kruse on her time in Cameron and her plans at Texas Lutheran.
When did you begin playing volleyball and know it was a game you would play in at Yoe High?
It all began back in fifth grade when Coach Richter ran those little mini camps. From there, I knew I would love it. I think programs like that, starting them young and building up to high school, is really effective. The transition with coaches the past few years has been difficult, but it was just another challenge to meet and conquer.
What did it mean to you to play for the Lady Yoe?
It means a whole lot because my family has been here my whole life. It meant more for me representing my family and keeping the Kruse name in it. Also, all the traditions we have here at Yoe High School are really important to uphold.
What was the most memorable moment from your career?
Those last 10 points against West in the first round of the playoffs in 2014. We were the underdogs going in, and coming out on top meant the world to the whole team.
When did you know college volleyball might be in your future?
I would have to say during my junior year when Coach Del Bosque presented the idea to me. She helped me make connections and really improved my skills.
What eventually led you to sign with Texas Lutheran?
I met them at a camp over the summer. Just seeing the way that they ran their program and the campus, attitude, and their values, it’s very similar here to Yoe High School. It’s a really good community based college.
Kruse will major in Nursing. How important is education to you?
Education definitely comes first. Volleyball is my love, but education has to come first.
What do you think makes a good volleyball player?
I have seen girls with all the athletic ability, but they don’t have the heart for it. They have all the capability, but if your heart isn’t in it, then you can’t go anywhere with it. Who’s willing to put in the time and work to improve themselves to the best of their ability?
How special was signing day for you?
It meant a whole lot to see all the hard work pay off. I wish Coach Richter and my brother could have been there, but it was great to see all the people help me reach this milestone come out and support.
