Ladies finish 2nd in Caldwell; drop district opener to Academy

This past Thursday through Saturday, Cameron participated in the Caldwell tournament. The ladies had a solid stretch of play over three days, finishing with a 4-2 mark. Cameron returned to action on Tuesday in the district opener at number #8 Academy, and fell 18-0.
Caldwell
Thursday (W 16-4 over Caldwell, L 5-0 to Milano)
In the opening game of the tournament, Cameron got revenge on an earlier loss to Caldwell by defeating the host team, 16-4 in 4 innings. Caldwell had previously beaten Cameron at home, 11-1. Cameron scored 4 runs in the third before the Lady Hornets answered with 3 of their own in the bottom half of the frame. However, Cameron scored 2 in the second, 2 in the third, and 8 in the fourth to blow the game wide open. Karla Martinez had a banner night at the plate, going 3-4 with a triple and 2 home runs and 6 RBI. Kenzie Wimmer also homered and drove in 3. Cameron's offense went cold in game number two in a 5-0 loss to Milam county counterpart Milano. Lady Eagle pitcher Jenna Lewis was untouchable, giving up only 1 hit and striking out 14 in here 6 innings of work.
Friday (W 17-0 over TSD, W 7-0 over Madisonville)
The Lady Yoe offensive firepower returned in game number three on Friday in a 17-0 win over Texas School for the Deaf. Wimmer (2-2, 2 2B, 6 RBI) and Martinez (1-4, 3 RBI) drove in the majority of the runs. Maddy Humble and Alejandra Ibarra both threw 1 scoreless inning apiece. In Cameron's second game, Humble threw a no-hitter while walking only one and striking out five in a 7-0 shutout win over Madisonville. Cameron scored all of their runs in the first three innings, giving Humble all the cushion needed for the win.
Saturday (L 2-0 to Bay City, W 1-0 over Bellville)
To begin the final day of play, Cameron could not muster up a hit in a 2-0 loss to Bay City. Humble had another admirable performance from the circle, throwing all five innings and giving up just the two runs on five hits. Madison Garay struck out 12 Lady Yoe batters and only a single walk prevented the perfect game. In the final game of the tournament, Cameron pulled out a late run in the sixth inning of a thrilling 1-0 victory over Bellville. The Lady Yoe only had two hits, but made them count as Karla Martinez drove in the game winning run. Humble picked up another win from the circle, scattering three hits while striking out three.
Academy
Nothing seemed to go right on Tuesday night, as the Lady Yoe dropped their district opener to Academy, 18-0. The most momentum Cameron had was in the second with a two-out single and double. Those runners were stranded and Academy proceeded to score 18 runs over the next two innings. The game was called due to the run-rule after the Lady Yoe batted in the top of the third. The Lady Bees scored 13 runs in the second frame, with 9 of those coming off of three home runs. Other district results saw Rogers shutout Rockdae, 3-0, and Lexington take down Jarrell, 7-3. Cameron will return to action in the Franklin tournament this weekend. Cameron is scheduled to play White Oak at 11:00 a.m. on Friday from the Ranch Complex. The ladies will host Jarrell on Mar. 7.
