Lady Yoe 1st, Yoemen 2nd in Cameron tennis tournament

Last Thursday and Friday, the Yoe tennis teams competed in the second tournament of the year in Cameron. It was a successful day as the Yoemen finished 2nd as team while the Lady Yoe captured gold. In total, Cameron had three first place medalist at the varsity level.
Houston Harris won the lone singles title on Friday for both squads. Harris drew a first round bye before defeating Stefek of Lexington (9-7) and Skrhak of Granger (8-4) in the finals. The varsity boys doubles team of Journey Page and Casey Greene also captured first by winning three consecutive matches over opponents from Granger.
In mixed doubles, Braden Brashear and Haleigh Carter were first. The duo had a first round bye before taking down Jaimes/Maldanado of Florence (8-3) and Jones/Falkenberry of Rogers (8-2). In varsity girls doubles, Kenzee Layne and Courtney Muniz finished second with a 2-1 record on the day. Cameron’s second mixed doubles team, comprised of Sean Winfrey and Destiny Merrow, won two matches and finished in third place.
In the JV division, Chandler Barton and Kirk Lara won the boys doubles title with wins over Rogers (8-0), Florence (8-6) and Florene (8-2). In boys singles, Jacob Green advanced to the championship before falling to Robertson of Lexington, 8-1.
For the JV girls, Noemy Polanco and Tiffany Bolivar were third in mixed doubles, falling to Lexington before winning a match over Cynthia Lara and Deanna Schafer, also of Cameron. The combo of Lara and Schafer were 4th.
The varsity squads will be back in action on Friday, March 10 at Academy.
