Regional Farmers Market to open March 25 at The Yards

Milam County residents will have a new place to get their fresh produce and local art beginning March 25.

The Milam Regional Farmers Market will launch its first season with a market that weekend. Markets will be held on the second and fourth Saturday of each month beginning with the first market day on March 25 through November.

The market will take place at The Yards of Cameron under the 44 Farms Farmers Market pavilion from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We are excited to be launching the Milam Regional Farmers Market this growing season,” Cameron Mayor Connie Anderle said. “We have many small and large farms as well as backyard gardens in the area. A farmers market is an ideal way to connect consumers with fresh produce grown in the region.”

According to Ginger Watkins, Executive Director for Cameron Economic Development Corporation, there are a great number of talented artists and crafters in the region who are also invited to participate in the farmers market. Producers feel that adding the artisans and crafters to the market adds to the texture and interest of the market for consumers.

“It is exciting to get to share the wonderful facilities of The Yards of Cameron and the 44 Farms Farmers Market with consumers and vendors,” Watkins said. “This is a key part of sharing Cameron and Milam County with friends, neighbors and visitors. We hope the market not only connects residents and visitors with excellent food but also becomes a fun place to spend a Saturday morning for all.”

Any growers or vendors interested in participating in the Milam Regional Farmers Market can contact Ginger Watkins at (254) 695-4970 or e-mail MilamRegionalFM@gmail.com for more information.

In the near future, vendor and market information will be available on TheYardsofCameron.com.  Consumers will also be able to check in to the Facebook group Milam Region Farmers Market to learn more about the produce and vendors for each market day.

The Yards of Cameron is located at 301 Adams. It offers ample parking, public restrooms, electricity and water in the pavilion.

The market is sponsored by the Cameron Industrial Foundation and the Cameron Economic Development Corporation.
