Hill signs with McLennan Community College

On Monday, the already long list of Yoe High seniors signed to play at the next level grew again as Daniella Hill signed her letter of intent to play softball for McLennan Community College.

Hill is the lone senior on this year’s softball team, and according to Lady Yoe head coach Abe Vargas, she has been an ideal player you look for in your program.

“Just watching how she plays and her work ethic, it’s good. She works and she wants to get better. She loves the game and enjoys playing. You can tell the passion she has for the game. I think she is going to be able to carry that over at MCC and she will continue to improve on her game and get better. MCC is getting someone that will help their program.”

Though Vargas has only coached Hill for two years now, he sees how much she has improved and what she brings to the plate.

“Daniella has come a long way,” said Vargas. “Playing at short, she makes a lot of plays and she makes a of difference. Her leadership is big, too. It is one thing that stands out a lot besides the way she plays the game.

Below is reaction from Hill on her signing.

What first got you started playing softball?

When I was just five years old my parents signed me up to play league ball here in Cameron. I’ve always enjoyed the game and never stopped playing.

Just talk about what playing for the Lady Yoe meant to you?

It was an honor to be playing for the school, wearing the jersey and representing the school. Personally to me it meant being apart of something bigger than myself, and I am so thankful to have played for the Lady Yoe varsity for four years.

Do you have a most memorable moment from your time playing for the Lady Yoe?

My most memorable moment from playing with the Lady Yoe is the times I had with my teammates. Freshmen through senior year I have always enjoyed being with them and having fun.

When did you first know that college softball could be in your future?

I’ve always wanted to play softball in college, and I guess it became more realistic my freshmen

year whenever my select team and I would attend showcase tournaments and college coaches would be there to watch.

What led you to sign with McLennan Community College?

Not only did I love the softball program there but I also loved the campus and the degrees they offered. They offer a surgical tech degree that I am very interested in and it isn’t offered at all colleges.

How important is the educational aspect of college for you?

The educational aspect of college to me is very important. My main reason in going to college is to further my education, I was just very lucky to be able to continue softball as well.

What do you think makes a good softball player?

A good softball player is someone who never gives up, and gives their all. You don’t have to be the best, just work hard and believe in yourself.

What would be your message to up and coming girls wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Don’t let anyone ever tell you that your are not good enough, that you don’t have the talent or the physique to play. If you really have the heart to want to play nothing and no one will stand in your way. Always believe in yourself, and in the things you can do. Nothing’s impossible.

How special was signing day for you?

Signing day was incredibly special because I was surrounded by all the people who believed in me and pushed me into becoming the person I am today. Without them I would not have had this amazing opportunity.
