Norvell Dean Ewing passed away on March 19, 2017, at the VA Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Basilio Montez officiating. Burial will follow in the Hernandez Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with a Wake service starting at 7.
He was born May 27, 1933, to Albert J. and Clara M, Johnson Ewing, in Topeka, Kan. Norvell attended school in Topeka, Kan. He began his career in the U.S Army, Ft. Riley, Kan. He served in Vietnam. Norvell retired from the Military as a Staff Sergeant at 22 years of service. He also drove for the Cameron Senior Citizen for many years also worked for the city of Temple.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Albert J. Ewing; sisters, Jean L. Clay, Reita L. Ewing, Marvenn M Smith, and Clara A. Moss.
He is survived by: wife, Sophie Mendoza Ewing of Cameron; sons, Jonathan Mendoza of Cameron, John Paul Mendoza of Cameron, Christopher Ewing of Cameron, Aaron Mendoza of Cameron, Norvell Dean Ewing Jr of Lorton, Va., James Bonny of Austin, Brooks Earl Bonny of Temple, Christopher Brown of Temple, Jimmie Brown of Temple, and Alex Brown Jr. of Cameron; daughters, Erica Mendoza Torres of Cameron, Loretta Brown (Andre Cambers) of Temple, Peggy Morrison of Rockdale, Mary Brown of Temple, Josephine Russell of Rockdale, Jeanette Barlow of Temple, Ella Madison of Temple, and Vicky Stallworth of Temple; sister, June M. (Don) Smith of Topeka, Kan. Twenty-seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.
Paul bears will be Edward Mendoza, Mike Molina, Ernest Perez, Robert Baez, James Pratt, Christopher Diver, Rhoshawn Brown, Earl Bonnie and James Bonnie.
