Lady Yoe continue to show improvement in loses 

Winning is not always the name of the game.  That could not be more true for the Lady Yoe softball team at this point of the season.  The playoffs are now out of reach, but there are still games to be played, which will be beneficial for a starting lineup that now contains no seniors. 

Franklin (L 9-3)

If you look at just the final score, you would have been deceived on how this game actually played out.  The Lady Yoe and Lady Lions were locked in an evenly matched contest that went into the 10th inning before Franklin took control.  

In the early going, whenever Franklin scored, Cameron had an answer.  Cameron tied the game up at 1 in the bottom of the first as leadoff hitter Karla Martinez hit one over the fence.  Franklin took a 3-1 lead in the third, but this time it was Kenzie Wimmer that hit a two-run home run to tie the game up for the second time. 

Neither team scored again until Franklin's 6 runs in the 10th.  Yoe freshmen starting pitcher Alejandra Ibarra went all 10 innings, giving up 13 hits, but only walked one and gave up five earned runs.  Cameron did have 9 errors compared to just 2 from Franklin.  

In addition to Martinez's two hits, five-hole hitter Ny'eli Yglecias also finished 2-4 with a pair of singles.  

Lexington (L 11-1)

For the second straight time, the Lady Yoe were short-handed entering the game with Lexington as two starters were missing for a variety of reasons.  In that first matchup, the game was competitive until an injury allowed for a big inning. 

Unfortunately for Cameron, that same scenario played out on Saturday.  At the end of three, Lexington held just a 3-1 advantage.  In the fourth, the lone Yoe senior and shortstop Daniella Hill had to leave the game after being hit in the face with a foul ball. Cameron went on to give up 6 runs in the inning. 

"It had a big effect on our girls," said Lady Yoe head coach Abe Vargas on the injury.  "We got down a little bit.  We were able to come back, so that was good.  Overall, yesterday and today are a big improvement, especially defensively."

Ibarra got her second start in a row and pitched well despite some defensive miscues.  Only 2 of the 11 runs for Lexington were earned. 

"Ally is a freshmen pitching, and she did a great job," said Vargas.  "She is giving us a chance and we are making plays.  I told the girls that defense is important and it will keep us in games and win games."

Cameron has just two games remaining in the 2017 season and the ladies will use every out to try and improve.  

"We just need to keep getting better," said Vargas.  "We are young and we had to move around a few people today and we will probably have to do that against Rogers and Rockdale."
