Year in review: Yoe Athletics 2017

With the completion of the state golf tournament and track meets, the 2016-2017 sports season has officially come to an end. Below is a review on how each of the programs within Yoe athletics fared during this past school year. Included is the team’s record (if applicable), district finish, playoff finish and Lone Star Cup points earned.

 

Fall Sports

 

Yoemen Football

Overall Record: 11-3

District Record: 5-1 (2nd place)

Playoff Finish: State Quarterfinals

Lone Star Cup Points: 8

Despite not getting to state for a fifth straight time, the Yoemen’s 2016 season would have to be considered a success. Cameron finished runner-up to Rockdale in 10-3A and ended up advancing to the state quarterfinals before bowing out to Malakoff, 37-34. Football earned nearly 60 percent of the Lone Star Cup points this past year.

 

Volleyball

Overall Record: 7-34

District Record: 2-12

Playoff Finish: None

Lone Star Cup Points: 0

Cameron played some competitive matches during district, but the only two wins over 20-3A came over the Hearne Eagles.

 

Cross Country

Boys Finish: 5th Place

Girls Finish: 6th Place

Regional Qualifiers: 1

Lone Star Cup Points: 0

Jose Osorio kept the string of sending athletes to the regional tournament alive by finishing in fourth place at the district meet.

 

Yoe Basketball

Overall Record: 20-12

District Record: 7-7 (4th)

Playoff Finish: Bi-District

Lone Star Cup Point: 2

Cameron has their most successful season since 2011 by clinching a playoff spot and finishing as bi-district finalist.

 

Lady Yoe Basketball

Overall Record: 9-22

District Record: 2-12 (7th)

Playoff Finish: None

Lone Star Cup Points: 0

The Lady Yoe managed to pick up two wins over Hearne in 20-3A, but could not get over the hump in any other matchup.

 

Yoe Powerlifting

Regional Qualifiers: 5

Unlike other sports, powerlifting does not compete for Lone Star Cup Points. In total, two girls and three boys represented Cameron at the regional meet.

 

Yoe Wrestling

Regional Qualifiers: 4

In only its second year of existence, the Yoe wrestling program sent a total of 4 athletes to the regional meet.

 

Yoe Soccer

Overall Record: 1-18-1

District Record: 0-12 (7th)

Playoff Finish: None

Lone Star Cup Points: 0

The Yoemen made strides in 2017, but did not manage to get into the win column from an all 4A district.

 

Lady Yoe Soccer

Overall Record: 4-14-2

District Record: 2-10 (6th)

Playoff Finish: None

Lone Star Cup Points: 0

Much like the Yoemen, the Lady Yoe competed hard in district play, finishing with a pair of wins over Eastside Memorial.

 

Baseball

Overall Record: 20-8-1

District Record; 10-2 (2nd)

Playoff Finish: Bi-District

Lone Star Cup Points: 2

Cameron won 20 games during the regular season, but had a tough draw with Troy in the opening round of the playoffs.

 

Softball

Overall Record: 8-18

District Record: 3-11

Playoff Finish: None

Lone Star Cup Points: 0

Much like most other sports, Cameron managed to pick up big wins over Hearne, but could not get over the hump in other district contests.

 

Yoe Golf

District Finish: 2nd

Regional Finish: 2nd

State Finish: 10th

Lone Star Cup Points: 0

After falling just short of advancing out of district play in 2016, the Yoemen made a push all the way to state in 2017. Cameron’s top golfers were all underclassmen.

 

Lady Yoe Golf

District Finish: 2nd

Regional Finish: 2nd

State Finish: 5th

Lone Star Cup Points: 2

The Lady Yoe continued their hot roll with a seventh straight trip to state in 2017. The ladies managed to finish in 5th place at the final tournament of the year.

 

Yoe Track

Girls District Finish: 3rd

Boys District Finish: 3rd

Regional Qualifiers: 9 (events)

State Qualifiers: 1

Lone Star Cup Points: 0

The track programs saw improvement in 2017 by finishing inside the top 3 of the district standings. The Lady Yoe also continued a long-standing tradition of sending athletes to state with Britttney Moorer in the shot put.

 

Yoe Tennis

Regional Qualifiers: 2

Lone Star Cup Points: 0

Cameron’s Houston Harris wrapped up her sophomore campaign on a high note, finishing in fourth place at the regional tournament.
