State Baseball Tournament
The final sporting event of the year took place last Wednesday through Saturday with the state baseball tournament. Locally, one Central Texas team captured a state championship as Abbott took down Fayetteville in the 1A state game on Saturday, 11-7. In the semifinal round, Abbott overwhelmed Gilmer Union Hill, 12-0. In 4A, Robinson fell just short of their first ever state baseball championship. The Rockets fell to now two-time defending state champion Abilene Wylie, 6-5. In 2A, Muenster defeated Big Sandy, 6-2. Thorndale had fallen to Big Sandy in the regional find round. 3A saw Central Heights run-rule the Wall Hawks, 10-0. The Yoemen defeated Central Heights in the 2011 state championship game. In 5A, Port Neches-Groves defeated Grapevine, 4-2, and in 6A Deer Park bested San Antonio Reagan, 7-2.
Cheer Camp
The 2017 summer cheer camp will take place on July 22 from the Yoe High Gym. The camp will be from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and will be for children aged four all the way up to fifth grade. Lunch will be provided, but all campers should bring a water bottle with their name on it. All early registered campers will receive a t-shirt. Additionally, all campers will get to cheer at a pep rally and football game. Make checks payable to Yoe High Cheerleaders.
Volleyball Camp
The Lady Yoe volleyball camp will take place from July 26 up until July 28. The camp will be at the Yoe High Gym and is for all incoming fifth through eighth graders and ninth through twelfth graders. The younger group will go from 8:30-11:30 while the older girls will work from 1:30-4:30. The cost is $50 per camper.
Football Camp
The Yoemen football camp will get underway on July 31 and will run through August 3 from the Lester and Beatrice Williams Strength and Conditioning Center and Yoe Field. The two age groups include incoming third through sixth and seventh through ninth graders. The youngsters will go from 8-10 while the older group will hit the field from 10:30 to 12:30. The cost per camper is $45. Campers will need to bring their own shorts, t-shirt, cleats and a towel. You can register the day of the camp. Please make all checks payable to Yoe Football Camp.
Yoemen make impact felt in FCA competition
A pair of Yoe High seniors represented Cameron this past weekend in FCA competition. Noah Kostroun was a part of the blue football team while Savannah Kruse was a member of the blue volleyball team. Kostroun, who will be joining Incarnate Word is San Antonio to continue his football career, forced and recovered a fumble for his team in what ended in a 24-24 tie. Kruse, who will also be taking her talents to the next level at Texas Lutheran University, had a pair of kills and four blocks on the day. The blue team swept the red, 25-12, 25-14 and 25-15.
Yoe baseball seniors contribute at all-star game
Cameron’s Caden Harris, Jourdan Young and Ty Moore had one final opportunity to wear the Yoemen uniform in Monday’s Central Texas All-Star baseball game from Waco ISD. All three players ended up contributing for the South blue team. In the bottom of the first, Harris drove in a run to put his team up 2-0. In the third, Moore singled to plate another run, putting the South up 3-1. In the 7th, Young scored off of a ball put in play by Moore to tie it a 4. The North won it in the bottom of the 7th, 5-4.
