Thorndale VFD Cook-off to feature Kevin Fowler Friday night

The Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department’s 27th Annual BBQ Cook-off is set for June 23-25.

The Fireman’s Softball Tournament will be held at City Park Field June 23-25.

There will be a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, June 23. A dance will be held in the City Park Pavilion from 8 p.m. to midnight with Texas Unlimited Band opening for Texas Country singer Kevin Fowler. Admission is $20 for all ages, under 5 is free. Gates to the park will close at 6:30 p.m. and tickets/wristbands will be required for entrance to remain in the park.

Opening ceremonies presenting Miss Thorndale and her court will be held at 11:30 a.m. The Thorndale Revue is set for Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the TISD cafeteria. Theme for this year is “Fiesta!” Anyone interested can pick up and drop off applications at the Good Times Eats Cafe on Main Street in Thorndale Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30-8 p.m. You can also contact Susan Drabek at (512) 269-8796 for more information. Saturday’s events include an arts and crafts show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and several tournaments.

A cook’s meeting for the cook-off will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Fireman’s Hall Saturday.

Horseshoe registration is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The tournament begins at 1 p.m. A 42 Domino Tournament will be held in the hall at 11 a.m. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

The Thorndale Fireman’s Auxiliary Turkey and Dressing Dinner will begin at 11 a.m. in Fireman’s Hall. Cost is $10 per plate. Desserts are available for a free will offering.

Washer Pitching Tournament begins at noon, registration from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Barbecue turn-in is at the Fireman’s Hall for judging from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Announcement of cook-off winners will be around 5 p.m. underneath the pavilion. A fireworks show will close out the weekend at 10 p.m.

A dance will be held in City Park Pavilion at 9 p.m. Saturday night with music by Terry Hughes and The Debonaires. Admission is $10 at the gate for all ages, 5 and under are free.
