Lunch Bunch

The Lunch Bunch will meet on Thursday, Nov. 2, at noon at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Cameron. Dana Goodwin from Kindred Health will talk to the group about memory care. The public is invited to attend. Bring a food dish to share for the lunch at noon.

 

Lilies of the Field

Milam Community Theater will debut their latest production at the Williams Event Center in Cameron. William Barret’s classic, “Lilies of the Field,” hits the stage this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 4-5, with encore performances the next weekend. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students. Curtain rises at 7 p.m. for Saturday showings and 2 p.m. for Sunday showings. Get your tickets at the door.

 

St. Monica’s Fall Festival

St. Monica’s Catholic Church will hold its Fall Festival on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 6-9 p.m. at the Simon George Hall, 306 S. Nolan. Beef and cheese enchiladas for $10 a plate. Booths include soda toss, fish pond, cake wheel and country store. Concessions available. Talent show begins at 7 p.m. Deadline to register is Nov. 3. Vendors interested can call (254) 295-6092.

 

Little River OPEN HOUSE

The Little River Healthcare Cameron Clinic has moved to its new location inside the LRH-Cameron Hospital. A celebratory Open House will be held for the public to tour the hospital’s and clinic’s changes on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to noon. The address for the now-combined hospital and clinic is 806 North Crockett Ave. in Cameron.

 

American Legion Garage Sale 

The Rockdale American Legion Carlyle Post 358, at 2534 N. FM 487, will have its Annual Garage Sale on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This huge sale will include stainless steel restaurant equipment, tires, furniture and household items, baby items, lots of clothes and miscellaneous.  Come out and support the American Legion as its members support fellow veterans and the community.  Contact Joe at (512) 955-9734 or Jim at (254) 697-6809.

 

Pastor and Wife Appreciation

Trinity New Life Worship Center invites you to the second annual Pastor and Wife Appreciation Service on Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. at Progressive Baptist Church. Pastor Roy Elton Brackins of Grace Tabernacle of Forest Hills will be guest speaker.

 

Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library will meet on Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Cameron Public Library.

 

CISD Community-wide cook-out

Cameron ISD will once again host its Community-wide Cook-Out on Nov. 9 from 5-6 p.m. next to Little River Healthcare and behind Sonice, 806 N. Crockett. Hot dogs, food and drinks will be free to everyone. 

 

State Marching Bus 

The Band Booster Club will offer a bus for Yoe Band supporters to San Antonio for the State Marching Competition on Nov. 7. The bus will depart from the Yoe High Band Hall at 9 a.m., arriving at the Alamo Dome at noon. The Yoe Band will march at 1:30 p.m., finals announcement will take place at 5:30 p.m. Finals will begin at 7:30 p.m. The bus will return to Cameron immediately following the announcement of winners appx 11:30 pm arriving back in Cameron at 2:30 a.m. To book a seat on the bus please stop by Ideal Poultry, 215 W Main to reserve a spot. CES Veteran’s Day Program

Nov. 10 is the CES Veteran’s Day program at the PAC starting at 1 p.m. The community is invited.

 

Regional Farmers Market

Milam Regional Farmers Market closes out the season with a very special Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Market on Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Many vendors will offer Veterans specials.  Also find special Thanksgiving décor and tasty treats for your Thanksgiving family gatherings.  Come back and see us in March 2018.

 

Model Railroad Club

The Milam County Model Railroad Club Meeting will be the second Tuesday in November (the 14th) at the Old Town and Model Railroad Museum in Cameron. This will be the last meeting of the year. TSI Testing

Yoe High School will be offering TSI testing on campus for YHS Students on Nov. 15. Please contact the counseling department to sign up your student. The TSI Assessment (TSIA) is part of the Texas Success Initiative program designed to help your college or university determine if you are ready for college-level course work in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. If you are an incoming college student in Texas, you are required to take the TSI Assessment - unless you are already exempt (read below) - to determine your readiness for college-level work. Based on how you perform, you may either be enrolled in a college-level course and/or be placed in the appropriate developmental course or intervention to improve your skills and prepare you for success in college- level courses.

 

Distracted Driving Course

A Distracted Driving Course for Adult Drivers will be held Dec. 5 from 1-3 p.m. at the Cameron Police Department, 605 W. Fourth Street in Cameron. To register contact Sgt. Anthony Maskunas at (254) 697-6574 or email amaskunas@camerontexas.net.

 

Our Words Writer’s Club

If you want to write poetry, books or short stories (fiction or non-fiction) for competition, to sell or just for fun. Open to everyone in Cameron and surrounding communities. No fees, just fun. San Andres Masonic Lodge

The San Andres Masonic Lodge #170 meets every second Thursday of the month at the San Andres Masonic Lodge #170 at 106 W. 6th St. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by a meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Dart tournament every Wednesday. Karaoke every Friday. Pool tournament on Friday also. Texas Hold Em every Saturday. Hours: Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

 

History of Milam County

The “History of Milam County” by Leila Batte is now on sale at the Milam County Museum. This invaluable volume has been out of print for over 64 years, so we are offering this opportunity to own one of the 500 copies made available by the museum. The volume is $60 at the Museum and $65 if shipped. You can stop by the Museum at 112 West First St. or contact the Museum at (254) 697-8963 or e-mail milamcountymuseum@milamcounty.net. Videos of Judge Black presentation on sale

In 2014 Judge William Black presented a talk about his father “The Life and Times of Sheriff Carl Black” at the Milam County Historical Museum. The museum now has DVD recordings of that presentation available for purchase at the museum located at 112 W. 1st, Cameron.
