Thorndale comes out to Relay for Life

Thorndale residents came out to Relay for Life on Nov. 4 at Thorndale City Park. See more photos on page 5.

Team TUFF raised over $6,700 this Relay season and won the Top Team award for the second year in a row during the Milam County Relay for Life event on Nov. 4.  

The Committee Team came in second raising $6,391. So far for this Relay season Milam County RFL has raised over $28,300 but we can turn in money until the end of the year.  

The live auction brought in $2,245. 

Jeter would like to thank the Cub Scouts Pack 789 for leading the Pledge of Allegiance this year. Also a big thank you to our entertainment for the day, DJ Big Ant, and the band Fear Not.  We would also like to thank Buddy and Marilyn Johnson for running our live auction this year.  They did a wonderful job. Jayne Palmer, our local ACS Staff Partner, was very helpful through our journey in 2017 and we can’t wait to work with her again.

We had three entries in the chili-cook off and Boyd Taylor won the event. He won the $75 pot and donated it back to RFL.

Other awards that were given out were: Oldest Relayer went to Cancer Survivor Harold Biar, 85, who will be 86 on the 19th; Youngest Relayer was Chesney Odom, 2; Most Enthusiastic Relayer went to Dakota Jeter who is also a cancer survivor; and Longest Relaying Relayer went to Susan Drabek for 13 years of commitment.

The group is looking forward to the 2018 season.
