CISD selects new principal for Ben Milam

Ben Milam Elementary students will return to classes in January with a new principal.

Beginning, Jan. 3, Assistant Principal Terry Dawson will take the reigns at Ben Milam as principal. Rod Allen will leave Cameron ISD to pursue other career opportunities according to CISD.

Dawson joined CISD during the summer of 2017 after serving in an administrative roll at Connally ISD, West ISD and Tyler ISD.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for being named Principal at Ben Milam Elementary School,” Dawson said. “I have worked in public education as a teacher/coach for a decade and spent another decade as an administrator on secondary campuses. Schools across the state are facing changes, and that coupled with an evolving accountability system continues to raise the bar and drive innovation within the schools to improve the student learning experience.”

Dawson said his experiences at the secondary level have provided insight as to difficulties that result from learning gaps and that the focus at Ben Milam will be to utilize human capital for collaboration with improved literacy as our goal.

“Being a Yoemen brings high expectations and I am proud to be a part of the Cameron ISD family,” he said.

CISD Superintendent Allan Sapp said the district is excited for Dawson to move into the principal roll.

“Terry brings exceptional experience to the position and will continue to be a huge asset to our staff, students and parents,” he said.

Students will begin the spring semester on Jan. 4.
