Lady Yoe win three in a row before falling to Lexington

If the Lady Yoe were going to be back into playoff contention in 20-3A, they were going to need to reel off a number of wins in a row.  That was accomplished over the past two weeks as Cameron picked up wins over Hearne, Jarrell and then most recently Franklin last Friday to improve to 5-6 in the district, just one game behind Rockdale, which sat at 6-5.

Franklin (W, 6-5)

The Lady Yoe used a five-run fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead over Franklin, but had to hold off a comeback and walked things off in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 win. Yareli Contreras was the hero, coming up with a clutch, 2-out single to left field, scoring T’maja Oges to extend the winning streak.

Franklin began the game with an unearned run followed by an RBI double by Leah Shields in the third to go up 2-0.

In the five-run fifth, Oges got things started with a bunt.  A pair of miscues on throws let Oges circle around all the bases and score to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Kenzie Wimmer doubled to center and Contreras singled up the middle to tie it up at 2-2. Ashlee Balch and Karla Martinez walked to load the bases with two outs. Trinity Daniels proceeded to triple down the left field line, clearing the bases for the 5-2 lead.

From the circle, Madison Brunson tossed three innings of five-hit ball, giving up just two unearned runs while striking out one.

Alejandra Ibarra also pitched four innings, giving up four hits, three runs (one earned) while striking out one.

Friday Finals: Cameron Yoe 6, Franklin 5; Rogers 10, Lexington 0; Academy 7, Jarrell 1; Rockdale over Hearne (forfeit).

Lexington (L 9-8)

The Lady Yoe appeared to have all the momentum after scoring seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to go up 8-6 over Lexington on the road.  However, the Lady Eagles responded with three in the bottom of the fifth and held on from there to walk away with the tight 9-8 victory.

It did not look good for Cameron early on as five runs were put up by Lexington in the very first inning.  Three-hole hitter Kylie Hobbs sent a 2-0 pitch over the left field fence for a two-run homer, which was followed by three singles and an error to plate the early runs.

The Lady Yoe did scratch one in the second as a Trinity Daniels single to left scored Balch. Down 6-1 in the fourth, Daniels singled again to center, plating two more runs to cut the deficit down to 6-3.  After Oges reached on a dropped third strike that was not thrown to first base, Wimmer doubled on a liner to right, clearing the bases to tie it at 6-6.

A Contreras double followed by a Balch single gave Cameron their first lead of the night.

However, after an error to begin the bottom of the fifth, Kacie Johnson homered to center to tie the game back up at 8-8.  A sacrifice fly brought in the go-ahead and eventual winning run.

Karla Martinez was on third in the top of the seventh inning, but she was left stranded.

Brunson started the game and went four innings, giving up nine hits, nine runs (six earned), walked two and struck out one.  Ibarra finished out the final two innings, giving up one hit, no runs and struck out two.
