Yoe falls further back in 20-3A standings

With teams now in the thick of the second round 20-3A, each and every game becomes more and more important as teams vie for playoff positioning. Despite falling to both Franklin (7-1) on Friday and Lexington (5-3) on Tuesday, Cameron still has a shot at the postseason, even being three games under five hundred in the district. 

Franklin (L 7-1)

The first round matchup against the district-leading Lions went miserably for Cameron, which fell 11-1. This one was not quite as lopsided but the Yoe bats were held in check once again in a 7-1 loss.  

Cameron had just four hits in the contest and scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth when Jason Llanas hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Luke Greene, but the score was already 5-0 at that point.  

Cameron managed to get runners on base in the first two innings, but trailed 2-0 after that point.  Bryce Brashear had a one-out single and Alex Alonso walked in the third, but once again all runners were stranded as the big hit was not generated. 

The Lions doubled up their lead in the fifth as Luke Ehly singled to right, bringing in two more runs.  Franklin added two more in the sixth before shutting the door with three strikeouts in the final Yoe at-bats.  

Alonso did what he could in this game, coming in with half of his team’s hits with a 2-2 finish with one walk.  The junior also pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 11 hits, seven runs (six earned), one walk and struck out six.  

Zack Andress closed things out with 1.2 innings pitched with no hits and no runs.  

Friday’s 20-3A Scores: Franklin 7, Cameron Yoe 1; Academy 11, Jarrell 10; Lexington 8, Rogers 7.  

Lexington (L 5-3)

Looking back on the loss to Lexington on Tuesday, you will have to point to the first inning, where Cameron game up four unearned runs.  The Eagles only plated one more run the entire game in what was a 5-3 loss for Cameron.  

It was a promising start to the evening as it appeared the Yoe’s scoring rutt was coming to an end when Andress hit a sharp line drive to left, scoring both Llanas and Alonso to give the Yoemen a 2-0 lead.  

In the bottom half of the inning back-to-back-to-back singles plated a run and the bases were loaded with two outs.  Colby King singled to center, where the ball got by Garrett Roeder, allowing three more runs to score.  

Cameron pushed one across in the fourth when Rick Fuentes singled on a slow grounder to third, scoring Llanas.  From that point on, Cameron had just two more base runners (reached on errors) and had no further hits. 

It was a difficult loss for Llanas on the mound.  The junior went all six innings with a 106 pitch effort.  Llanas gave up only one earned run (five total runs), walked just one and struck out two.
