Lady Dogs make quick work of Louise

The No. 1 Thorndale Lady Dogs (24-3-1) made quick work of their opening game in the Class 2A state softball playoffs.  The team demolished the Louise Lady Hornets 19-0 on Thursday night at Schulenburg in the teams’ bi-district contest.

Thorndale now moves on the area round where they will face Snook in a single elimination game.  First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Rockdale High School.  The Lady Jays are the second place team from 26-2A and defeated Deweyville in their bi-district contest.

It took just four and a half innings for Thorndale to take the win over the Lady Hornets.  Louise made three errors on defense that put Thorndale runners across the plate or in scoring position.

The Lady Dogs scored four runs in the bottom of the first, seven in the second and four in each of their third and fourth innings at bat.  Thorndale also collected 14 hits on the night.

Bailey White was three for four on the night, with seven runs batted in and two doubles.  Riley White also went three for four with two doubles and pushed across five RBIs.  Jordyne Bigan was three for three, smashed a double and scored four times.

Allison Betak also connected for a double and an RBI and scored twice in her two for four performance in the game.  Madison Flores was two for three with three runs scored and two more batted in.  Caitlin Garcia was one for three, scoring twice, with Madison Kelm crossing home plate four times.

Louise finished the season at 5-8 overall and was the fourth place team out of District 28-2A.  Thorndale is the champion of 27-2A.

Lady Hornets had a tough time with Lady Dogs’ ace Riley White.  The sophomore hurler did not allow one Louise base runner in the run-ruled game.  She struck out 11 of the 15 batters faced, gave up no hits, nor any walks.

Just two Louise batters even made contact with the ball twice, but hit it right at the Thorndale defense.

Lady Hornet pitcher Delossantos pitched four innings, striking out one batter and walking four.
