20-3A All-District Baseball

With Lexington exiting the playoffs in the regional quarterfinals, the 20-3A all-district lists have been released.  Cameron - which finished this season with a district record of 5-7 - had three different players honored. Topping that list was senior Bryce Brashear, which was the Yoemen’s lone first team selection.  Zack Andress, another senior, received second team honors while senior catcher Rick Fuentes took home honorable mention accolades.

Baseball Playoff Update

Lexington’s improbable run in the playoffs came to an end to Clifton in the regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs this past weekend.  The Eagles had taken down state-ranked Troy in two games in bi-district while also sweeping Buffalo in the area round. Lexington had took game one (3-0) over the Cubs, before dropping back-to-back games on Saturday (8-4, 6-4) to bow out of the playoffs.  

Elsewhere, Thorndale is advancing to the fourth round after picking up a thrilling 20-14 win over Evadale in game three of their most recent series.  Thorndale had swept Ganado and Iola in the opening two rounds. The Bulldogs (31-4-1) will be playing Riviera (21-6) in the regional semifinals. The series will be played in Hallettsville, with game one on Thursday at 7:30.  Game two and three will be at 2:00, back in Hallettsville.

This will be the first week of the playoffs that The Yards of Cameron is not hosting a series.

Softball Playoff Update

Rogers’ run in the postseason came to an end in the regional semifinal round this past week.  The Lady Eagles dropped back-to-back games to number five Buna, 7-0 and 7-2. Rogers ended their 2018 season with a 30-3 overall record.  

Elgin will be taking on Barbers Hill in the 5A region III finals, Lorena will battle with Liberty in the 4A region III finals and Crawford draws Bells in the 2A region II finals.  

Lady Yoe golf finishes seventh at state

Cameron (fourth, 391) was in prime position after day one of the state golf tournament from Austin, sitting just 18 strokes back of leader Rockdale (373).  

The ladies simply did not have enough on day two, falling back three spots to earn a seventh place finish at 785.

Cameron shot a 391 collectively on day one, with Keagan Galvan leading the way with a 93.  Jazmine Vaculin (98), Carley Tucker (99), Emily Graham (101) and Presley Berry (102) rounded out the Yoe scoring.  

Rockdale led after round one at 373, with Ingram Moore (379) and Lago Vista (387) sandwiched in-between the two Milam County schools.  

The ladies collectively shot a 394 on day two, with Vaculin’s 92 being the team low on the day.   Galvan (98), Berry (100), Graham (104) and Tucker (117) were the other round two scores.

Vaculin’s 190 was good enough for 24th overall while Galvan’s 191 was one spot behind for 25th individually.  

Rockdale led after round one with a 373, but Ingram Moore had a second-round push to claim the state title, with the Lady Tigers taking home silver. Lyndy Laurell captured her second consecutive individual state championship with a 153, which was nine strokes ahead of McGregor’s Paige Gilstrap (160).
