Façade Grant program application deadline approaching

The Cameron Economic Development Corporation, City of Cameron and Chamber of Commerce announced the launch of a Façade Grant program for buildings in the Business and Commercial Districts of the City in April.

An application deadline of July 16 has been set for this year’s program funding. All businesses interested in making improvements to their building façade are encouraged to submit an application by July 16.

The program is an initial effort to assist existing businesses in making improvement to their buildings exteriors. A fresh coat of paint, new windows, signs, awnings and more go a long way to telling customers that a business is a growing and going concern interested in creating a positive customer experience.

“A fresh new look builds pride in our community and draws visitors in to shop and explore our city,” Ginger Watkins, Executive Director of the Cameron Industrial Foundation said. “We are proud of all the businesses who have invested in their building façades – Bonita Plaza, Milam Auto Supply, Top Donuts, Anderle Lumber Company, and Ideal Poultry to name just a few.  And likewise delighted with the new construction and expansions such as Dairy Queen, Classic Bank and EBCO General Contractors.”

Watkins said they hope that the Façade Grant Program will serve as “bootstrap” assistance for other businesses to make exterior improvements.

Improvements which qualify for the Façade Grant include: store signage, lighting, awnings, windows, building fronts, entries, planters and other expenditures as defined by the Façade Grant Committee (FGC). The Façade Grant Program is a reimbursement program.  All awards shall be retained pending completion and inspection of the project. Grants are available for up to 50 percent reimbursement.  Grant amounts will depend upon funding availability.

Grant applications are available through the Cameron Economic Development or Chamber of Commerce office located at 102 E. First Street or go to www.cameronindustrialfoundation.com or www.cameron-tx.com for information on the program and forms.
