The Cameron Lady Yoe have been perfect as of late. Over the weekend, the ladies went a perfect 4-0 in their own tournament and dominated the competition in the process. The Lady Yoe left no doubt in any of their four tournament wins, sweeping the competition 12 sets to zero.
“This is exciting this year,” said coach Kamol Nohe. “We came in with high expectations with three seniors that have put in a lot of time and effort. It’s time for them to push through and their leadership is helping us solidify and become stronger. We just have to stay focused and build from here.”
Cameron did not let that momentum slip up on Monday when they traveled to Vanguard Prep in Waco, pulling out a four-set win while extending the win streak to five.
Day One
Cameron opened play on Thursday with Marlin and cruised to the three set victory, 25-17, 25-12, 25-22. Carley Tucker, which was named tournament MVP for her performance over the weekend, had 15 kills in the first match alone.
Stats: Kills - Tucker (15), Kenzee Layne (6), Darci Denio (4), Garcen Dach (4), Kenzie Wimmer (1). Aces - Wimmer (4), Denio (3), Madison Brunson (1), Tucker (1), Dach (1).
Cameron continued to stay focused in match number two, dominating 4A La Vega, 25-9, 25-14, 27-25. Tucker impressed with her offensive skills, totalling 30 successful attack attempts and 11 kills.
Stats: Kills - Tucker (11), Ja’Kerra Holt (4), Wimmer (4), Dach (4), Layne (2), Brunson (2). Aces - Denio (4), Brunson (4), Tucker (3), Dach (3), Layne (1).
Day Two
To open play on Saturday, the tournament championship was going to come down to who would win between Cameron and Milano. Milano had picked up a pair of wins over La Vega and Mumford and both teams were undefeated heading into the match.
That simply made no difference for Cameron as they swept the Lady Eagles in straight sets, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-15.
Stats: Kills - Tucker (17), Denio (4), Holt (4), Dach (4), Layne (2), Brunson (2). Aces - Tucker (7), Denio (3), Layne (1), Dach (1).
The ladies did not give an inch in their finale, cruising by Mumford in three, 25-14, 25-18, 25-14.
Stats: Kills - Tucker (15), Dach (5), Brunson (3), Holt (3), Marley Spink (1), Wimmer (1). Aces -
Denio (2), Tucker (2), Wimmer (2), Layne (1), Brunson (1).
Tucker was named MVP while Wimmer and Denio were both named to the all-tournament team.
“It’s us waking up and learning to compete,” said Nohe on being able to sustain success. “I think sometimes we take it for granted and we just have to come out and compete. Our mentality needs to be to win every point.”
