Week 3 Football Outlooks

Cameron Yoe (1-0) Vs. Gatesville (1-1)

Perhaps the most tricky game on Cameron’s schedule is this road trip to Gatesville. Regardless of what kind of team the Hornets may have, they have traditionally given Cameron problems. With that said, I do believe this would be a year for the Yoemen to go on the road and pick up another win. Gatesville is far from the worst and they are a larger school, but they are lacking a bit in the speed category and I do believe that could play right into the hands of the Yoemen on Friday night. The main concern for me would be the fact that Gatesville does like to line up in quite a few different formations, so the Yoe defense will need to be disciplined. At the end of the day, Cameron’s defensive front is going to need to have a good game. If they can get the Hornets into second and third a long, this is going to be a good night.

Pratt’s Eats: I am going to keep it simple this week with food. Whether you are eating before or after the game, I would make a stop over at Wings Pizza N Things in Temple. These are clearly the best wings in the area and if you like New York style pizza and handmade ranch dressing, this is your place to be. The Old Jody’s restaurant, also located in Temple, has one of the best chicken fried steaks in Texas.

Milano (0-2) Vs. Bremond (1-1)

It has been a rough start to the year for Milano, and particular the offense, which has only scored 16 total points in their opening two ball games. Thorndale’s 34-8 win over Bremond in week two does shed some positive light for the Eagles, but I still anticipate this one being an uphill battle.

Josh’s Pick: Bremond by 14.

Thorndale (1-0) Vs. Axtell (2-0)

Thorndale opened some eyes in week two with their dominating win over Bremond, 34-8. Jagger Rubio (13 carries, 128 yards) and Luke Leschber (15 carries, 119 yards) both led the way for the ground game that totalled 329 yards in the win. Up next could be a stiff challenge in Axtell, which has also cruised in their two opening wins over Dawson (50-12) and Malakoff Cross Roads (49-0). I think these Bulldogs will be out to prove they are back after disappointing seasons in 2017 and 2016.

Josh’s Pick: Thorndale by 14.

Lexington Vs. Rockdale (at Taylor)

As construction on Rockdale’s new field continues, this game will be played at Tayor’s new facility. After leaving following the first half of Robinson and Gatesville, I managed to get over to Troy for the second half of their contest with Lexington. It was tied 21-21 at the break, but the Eagles dominated the rest of the game that I witnessed. As you would expect from a top 10 team, Lexington is balanced and has above average athletes at the quarterback and running back positions. Rockdale did pick up a 35-17 win over Caldwell last week, but there could be some more growing pains in this one.

Josh’s Pick: Lexington by 10.

Troy (1-1) Vs. Robinson (1-1)

Troy is obviously doing something right in 2018. The Trojans knocked off Salado in week one and had Lexington on the ropes until things fell apart in the second half. In this very game a season ago, Troy narrowly fell in a 34-28 final. Based on what I saw from Robinson, there is a strong possibility for another win for the Trojans.

Josh’s Pick: Troy by 7.

Mexia (1-1) Vs. Malakoff (2-0)

This is another great measuring stick game that you can use if you’re a Yoe fan. After Cameron defeated Mexia in week one by two touchdowns, the Blackcats responded in a big way in week two, blasting rival Teague, 51-7. To compare, Malakoff beat Teague in week one, 60-30. Mexia is a very talented squad and if you have any sort of weaknesses on your defensive unit, you’re going to give up some points to these guys. Malakoff is at home for this one, so I truly believe it could be a toss up.

Josh’s Pick: Malakoff by 1.

Comfort (0-2) Vs. Lago Vista (0-2)

It’s has been a rough, and somewhat surprising start to the season for Lago Vista. The Vikings don’t appear to have the talent they had back when they were in Cameron’s district around 2012 or 2013, but last week’s 42-7 loss to Lampasas would have me a bit concerned. A positive for week three is that Comfort also does not have a win and has not been any more impressive in their losses to Lytle (30-23) and Hyde Park (47-11).
