William Robert Layne

William (Bill) Robert Layne, of Gause, passed away peacefully at Temple Scott & White Hospital Sept. 27, 2018.  

Bill was born July 18, 1946m in Houston, to Herman Layne and Opal Belle (Layne) Fisher.  After the marriage of Harold and Opal Bill was adopted by Harold Blaine Fisher and the family resided in Houston. 

Bill served in the USMCR from1964 until 1972. He retired from Dupont in Chattanooga, Tenn., after 15 years then returned to Houston where he worked for the Fisher Company, a family owned surveying company.  Upon moving to Gause, he worked for MHMR and the Milam County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer.  After his retirement he enjoyed family and friends and keeping up with the Houston Astros.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Layne; Opal and Harold Fisher; and his brother, Darrell Glenn Fisher. 

Left to honor his memory are his wife Mary; and their two sons, David and wife Laura and Harold and wife Charla; and grandchildren, Danielle, Carley, Nicole and Derek.  Extended family of the heart includes Jon Carpenter and Jean Roden.  Also, he is survived by sisters, Dodie Wilkins, Gloria Beam Elliot, Cheryl Lynn Groat and LaRaye Fisher; and brothers, Harold Blaine Fisher Jr. and John David Fisher; as well as multiple nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at Marek-Burns & Laywell with visitation at 1:30 p.m. and services at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, followed by graveside services at Liberty Cemetery.
