Steaktober Fest returns to downtown Oct. 12-13

A weekend of steak, music and fun will return to downtown Cameron on Oct. 12-13 when the 5th annual Steaktober Fest kicks off.

The Cameron Chamber of Commerce and Working for Cameron will host the event. A steak cookoff and steak dinner on Saturday will feature local beef producer, 44 Farms, with ribeye steaks and all the trimmings. Tickets for the steak dinner cost $35 and can be purchased from any Chamber Board Member or by calling the Chamber office at (254) 697-4979. There will be inside and outside seating under a lighted tent in front of Bea’s Kitchen 101 E Main for two times 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

This year’s event will kick off on Oct. 12 with events in downtown following the Yoe Homecoming game.  Friday night will feature music, food, beer, wine and artists at Bagley Pecans and the Mercantile Bistro in downtown Cameron.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, festivities will begin at 10 a.m. in historic downtown Cameron. Artists like Western Roundup Artist with art and demonstrations, crafters, wineries, musicians, and breweries will be featured along with antiques and collectibles booths. There will also be an antique car cruise in. Along with the famous Little River Master Gardner’s Annual Rose Sale.

Cameron Connection will have its mobile library downtown to give away free books. The Milam County Girl Scout Troops will host story time and will read to children on the courthouse lawn. 

Fitzpatrick Trick Roping will be on the music stage to entertain young and old alike, with roping tricks at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. 

The steak cookoff competition is being organized by Julie Sulak, Sam Berry and Daniel Willie with Working for Cameron. Steak cookers will be on the downtown square ready to compete in the steak cookoff with 44 Farm ribeye steaks, Bloody Mary and appetizer contests.  This cookoff is sanctioned by the Steak Cookers Association, and will be judged by celebrity judges.

“Cameron and Milam County have such rich heritage, so we want to showcase our three museum locations on Saturday,” Chamber Director Melanie Reed said. “We will again have speakers and demonstrations at the Milam County Museum. Donny White will be featured with Cowboy Poems and Tales on Saturday at 2 and 4 p.m.” 

Music will be played all throughout the day, with bands like E Flat Porch Band, Nestor Rios and Jazz Combo, Charlie Wyler, and Casey Stanislaw to name a few.

The day’s events will close with a Street Dance with Chris Martinez and fireworks around the downtown square at dusk.
