Week 7 Football Outlooks

Jarrell (3-3/1-1) Vs. Cameron Yoe (4-1/1-0)

Last week, Cameron simply did what was expected against Katy St. John XXIII. We knew going into that game that Cameron was going to have the advantage at pretty much every position and it showed as the Yoemen dominated in every facet of the contest.  One big takeaway is that Cameron had no major injuries, which is something no team wants to have to stare in the face in the middle of district play.

Jarrell is making strides this season as they have already surpassed their win total from a year ago and have already defeated Lago Vista (31-15) for what was their first district win in two years.  With that said, I simply do not see this team competing with Cameron or Rockdale after their blowout loss to Troy a week ago, 45-2. The big game for the Cougars will be when they play Academy, which should decide fourth place in the district.

Jarrell does operate out of the shotgun and will throw the ball quite a bit, so this will give the secondary a bit of a tune-up.  It should be a bit tougher this week, but this game should never be in doubt.

Josh’s Pick: Cameron Yoe by 28+

Hearne (1-4/1-1) Vs. Milano (2-2/1-0)

Milano trailed Thrall (13-7) at the half last week, but rallied for the 14-13 win to start out 13-2A play with an important win.  Hearne is 1-4 on the year, but don’t let that record deceive you. Hearne entered the season ranked and played good 3A programs such as Franklin and Groesbeck in their non-district schedule.  Additionally, Hearne’s win in district play also came over Thrall, but it was 54-6.

Josh’s Pick: Hearne by 24.

Thorndale (3-1/1-1) Vs. Thrall (1-5/0-2)

It was expected to be a close, hard-fought game, and that is what we got as Thorndale fell to Holland last week, 21-20.  Thorndale is going to look back early on in the game where they failed to convert on a pair of two-point conversions, which ended up being the difference in the final score.  I don’t anticipate that being an issue this week when the Bulldogs make the short, five-minute trip up to Thrall for a rivalry game.

Josh’s Pick: Thorndale by 28.

Rockdale (4-1/1-0) Vs. Lago Vista (1-5/0-2)

Rockdale is coming off a blow out victory over Manor New Tech, 70-6, while Lago Vista fell to Academy, 27-19.  I did anticipate the Vikings being in the playoff picture before the season, but as of now I no longer see that being an option.  With losses to Jarrell and Academy along with Rockdale, Cameron and Troy still on the schedule, the chances are very slim for a turnaround.  This will be a bit tougher for the Tigers this week, but it still should be over at the half.

Josh’s Pick: Rockdale by 28+.

Little River Academy (3-3/2-0) Vs. Troy (4-2/1-1)

Academy is off to a hot start after picking up wins over Manor New Tech and Lago Vista.  The Bees will go into this rivalry game with confidence, but I simply see Academy being outmatched by the Trojans rushing attack on Friday night.  Troy is improved this season and they were already a step ahead of Academy.

Josh’s Pick: Troy by 28+.

Teague (1-4/0-1) Vs. Groesbeck (5-1/1-1)

With the West win over Groesbeck last week, I do believe the Trojans are the overwhelming favorite to win 19-3A.  At this point, I do see Groesbeck and Grandview battling it out for the second and third spots while the likes of Whitney and Teague are probably in contention for fourth.  Teague is certainly down this season based on their early season results, but I do think they can keep this game competitive. McGregor has already lost to Whitney by 20, so it is a long road ahead for them at this point.

Josh’s Pick: Groesbeck by 14.
