Homecoming Win: Yoe thrashes Jarrell, 54-7.

Heading into Friday's game, the main concern for the Yoemen was making sure they would show up to play a Jarrell team they had previously dominated the past two seasons.  By the time the game had reached halftime, all of those concerns had been put to bed, as the Yoemen had a commanding 40-0 lead which eventually led to a 54-7 final.

The Yoemen (5-1/2-0) did just about everything right on this night, scoring at will on the Jarrell (3-4/1-2) with 481 yards of total offense while the defense had a shutout going until the final moments.

"I told the kids at the end that I felt like we played a really good, four-quarter game tonight," said Yoe coach Tommy Brashear.  "I thought we had great effort and played hard.  There were a couple of big plays given up on defense, but I did feel they played really well tonight.  We still missed a few tackles, but we are tackling better overall."

Cameron's first half outburst saw six different players responsible for putting points up on the board in addition to the special teams getting in on the action.

"The offense was clicking really well and I felt like we got off to a fast start, and we are doing a little better at that," said Brashear.  "We did "Indy" at the beginning on offense to have that sense of urgency.  I kind of like to be a little bit faster, but I feel like it's helping our kids get those better starts.

Receiver Kadrian Hammond managed to stretch the defense vertically, catching a pair of 25-yard and 61-yard touchdown passes from Yoe quarterback Braden Brashear in the opening half.  Hammond finished with 4 catches for 114 yards, all coming in the first half.

"It was mostly man coverage," said Hammond on the looks the Jarrell defense was giving him.  "I feel like our receivers can do that and I feel like we're the best in our district with our receivers."

On Jarrell's second possession of the game, a punt attempt on a 4th and 16 sailed over the punters head and eventually led to a safety.  Jarrell's offense finished with just 155 total yards, with a majority of that coming in the second half when the game was in hand.

"I think our kids are playing really hard," said Brashear.  "On defense, we are flying to the ball and they are executing and playing assignment defense.  We will be tested a little more in the coming weeks but I'm excited to see where we're going."

One of the top players for the Yoe defense has been lineman Anthony Steamer, which leads all defensive lineman in tackles with 45 on the year, and also has 7 tackles for loss just after the mid-point of the regular season.

"I'm thankful for the coaches because they have taught me everything that I know," said Steamer on his early season success.  "I'm just happy that they believed in me.  I think we're playing good as a team and we have been executing well."

The only real negative of the first half was not managing to finish off a drive with a first and goal at the 2-yard line, which ended with Ulices Cardona knocking through a 24-yard field goal.

"There was one series that we kicked a field goal," said Brashear.  "It was not a wasted series, but I felt like there was a missed opportunity there and there were a few in the second half."

Cameron's starters did come out and play a small amount of time in the second half, before giving way to back-ups.  Senior quarterback Kirk Lara had a passing touchdown in the third quarter, hitting Kobe Young on the 8-yard score.

"We got all of our backups in and got them some reps and had some miscues here and there, but that is why we try to get them in there and work those things out," Brashear said.
