Lady Yoe win two to stay in playoff hunt
After falling to Rockdale last Tuesday on the road, it was due or die time for the Lady Yoe as they knew they would probably have to win out to have a chance at getting into the postseason. So far so good, as Cameron managed to sweep Rogers (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) on Friday at home while taking down Franklin (25-16, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22) in the big Dig Pink game on Tuesday from Yoe Gym.
Darci Denio, which is a senior on this year’s team, said that their goal of making the playoffs is not changing despite needing to make up ground the last few matches of the season.
“The focus is to win out,” said Denio. “The goal is to make the playoffs and we know we are capable of it. It’s just we need the consistency and we have been working on that in practice. I think it will carry on in other games.”
Against Rogers, Cameron simply did not have that down moment to let the Lady Eagles - who came into the match just ahead of Cameron in the standings - back in the match.
“I knew Rogers was doing really well, beating Rockdale,” said coach Kamol Nohe. “But, we worked hard in practice to be prepared. We had to change our mindset after Rockdale to get ready for this match, trying to find ways to motivate them to come out and win. We won the first and second and then usually turn it over to the other team, but the motivation was there to win that next set. We also reduced the number of errors and that really seemed to help out a lot.”
Denio continued to reiterate consistency, saying that her team managed to play a complete match to close out the playoff-hopeful Lady Eagles.
“We have been working a lot of being consistent on our hits, blocks and serving well. That just kind of showed today in the game,” said the senior. “A lot of times they would hit the ball straight down and we would get a block and were able to play off of that.”
