Paul Caven Freeman

Paul Caven Freeman, 79, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2018.

Paul is survived by his "current" wife of 57 years, Carole Richards Freeman; son, Christopher Caven; and  daughter, Shannon Leigh. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly Shelton and her husband Bob; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents Tyson and Lois Freeman preceded him in death.

Paul attended Southwestern University in Georgetown and majored in journalism at the University of Texas in Austin.  He was an avid reader who became an author and a Bureau Manager with United Press International, and a Bureau Chief with the Associated Press.  His career was placed on hold from 1963 to 1965 while he served in the United States Army working part-time at the Temple Daily Telegram. He worked as a City Editor for the Fort Worth Star Telegram, and as a Media Representative for TU Electric.  During the years Paul and family lived in Texas, Louisiana, New York, Montana, Mississippi and North Carolina. In 1993, he and Carole bought a fishing camp on Lake Buchanan. During the 19 years they spent at Cottonwood Cove they made many friends of their guests who they now consider extended family.  While at the lake Paul began a humorous political column known as “From Cottonwood Cove.”

Paul was known for his Christmas FCL’s (Form Christmas Letters) that were filled with political humor and eagerly awaited by numerous friends who have shared them over and over again with their family and friends.  In 2012 Paul and Carole relocated to Marble Falls to be closer to medical treatment for his renal failure.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Marble Falls. The family will have a graveside service in Little River Cemetery near Maysfield at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the SPCA or your favorite charity.
