Avys Locke

Avys Locke, age 90, of Milano, passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, at her home in Milano.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Roy Dillard officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery near Milano. Visitation will also be Friday from noon until service time at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Avys Locke was born Sept. 18, 1928, in Milano to Claude and Bertha (Reese) White. She graduated from Milano High School. She received her B.A. from Southwest Texas State University and her M.A. from Sam Houston State University. Avys lived in Bryan and Madisonville before returning to Milano. She taught English for a number of years at North Zulch School in Madison County.  She then worked for Teacher’s Service Center and served as librarian for many years in small school districts.  She retired from this job.  She was a member of the Liberty Church near Milano.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Pauline Nevitt.

Surviving are her sons, Jim Locke and wife Cathey of College Station, Monte Locke and wife Vicki of Milano and Casey Locke of Milano; five grandchildren, Jason Locke, Jake Locke, Sydney Metscher, Reese Locke and Rosa Locke; nine great-grandchildren, Logan, Emma, Lane, Koda and Lucy Locke, Kylie and Kalen Graham, Kaden Braaton and Desmond Metscher.

Serving as pallbearers are Reese Locke, Jaxon Locke, Jacob Locke, John B. Stevenson, Greg Stevenson and Bill Stevenson.
