Martin Dean Hobbs

Services for Martin Dean Hobbs, age 84, of Thorndale were held Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Mark Porterfield officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant Retreat Cemetery. Public visitation was held on Monday at the funeral home.

Martin was born Sept. 15, 1934, south of Thorndale, and was the son of Jess and Olga (Schramm) Hobbs. 

He was a graduate of Thorndale High School. He lived most of his life in the Thorndale area except for 25 years he lived in Houston and managed a Whites Store. 

After moving back toThorndale he became a rancher until he retired. He and Wanda Shirley were married on May 29, 2003, in Cameron. Martin was a member of the Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church, a veteran of the United States Army and served Milam County as Justice of the Peace in Precinct 4 for 14 1/2 years. He was a member of the Houston Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason. 

He enjoyed gardening, riding around the farm in the Gator with his dog Missy and cat Morris and would take a little time to fish.

Martin passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 17, at his home near Thorndale. 

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Hobbs; stepdaughter, Ellen Biehle; and parents, Jess and Olga Hobbs.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda Hobbs of Thorndale; son, Darrell Hobbs of Cameron, and his two sons, Dustin and Sean Hobbs of San Antonio; stepson, Jonathan Jones and wife Mary of Copeland and their two sons, Brandon and Austin Jones of Copeland; and his sister, Betty Caffey and husband Bobby of College Station.

Serving as pallbearers were Jonathan Jones, Brandon Jones, Austin Jones, Kevin Lindig, Kenneth Biehle, and Jack Brooks.  Honorary pallbearers were Kevin Biehle and Randy Caffey.
