Taylor, Diamond Valley win Cameron Chamber Classic Tournament

The Taylor Ducks and Diamond Valley Eagles took top honors from the Cameron Chamber of Commerce Christmas Classic last week.

Taylor won first place on the boys side and Diamond Valley, Australia, took the top spot for the girls.

Taylor defeated Diamond Valley 51-46, Cameron 69-50, Manor New Tech 71-34 and Marble Falls 66-60 to claim the title.

Yoemen

The Yoemen came out of the gate strong with a 75-28 win over Manor New Tech to open the tournament on Thursday. 

Dre Booze led the Yoemen with 17 points, Thomas Melton added 14 and Nico Vargas added 13. Other scorers for the Yoemen were: Za’Korien Spikes with eight, Braden Brasher with ten, Kobe Young with seven, Calvin Stewart with two and Chris Johnson with four.

The Yoemen then fell to Taylor 69-50 in their second game on Thursday.

Booze and Young were the top scorers against Taylor. Booze had 18 points, while Young added 14 points. Other scorers were: Melton with seven, Spikes with five, Brashear with one, Vargas with one and Stewart with four.

The Yoemen fell to Australia 78-68 in pool play on Friday morning.

Vargas led all scoring for the Yoemen with 21 points against Australia. Booze followed up with 16 points and Young had 14 points. Other scorers for the Yoemen were: Spikes with 12, Melton with four, and Brashear with one.

The Snook Bluejays defeated the Yoemen 48-40 in the last round of the tournament.

Young and Spikes each scored 11 points against Taylor. Other scorers were: Greg England with eight, Vargas with seven, and Melton with three.

Lady Yoe 

The Lady Yoe lost a hard-fought game against Rosebud-Lott to open tournament play on Thursday.

They fell to the Lady Cougars 46-41. Ja’Kerra Holt was the top scorer for the Lady Yoe with 17 points. Other scorers were: Savannah Bynaum with two, Lauryn Leftwich with seven, Akasha Evans with five, Brianna Collier with eight, and Averee Wadlington with two.

The Lady Yoe easily defeated Austin Travis in the second round of play 46-18. Ja’Kerra Holt once again was the top scorer for the Lady Yoe with 23 points. Other scorers were: Bynaum with three, Leftwich with seven, Evans with two, Collier with five, and Wadlington with six

The Lady Yoe also defeated Hearne 51-43 to move on to the Bronze game. Leftwich scored 15 to lead the Lady Yoe against Hearne. Other scorers were: Bynaum with three, Holt with 14, Wimmer with two, Evans with four, and Collier with 13.

The Lady Yoe fell to West in their final tournament game 49-24. Leftwich was the top scorer for the Lady Yoe with 14 points.

Others adding points were: Holt with four, Evans with four and Collier with two.

The Yoemen and Lady Yoe will return to district play on Friday night when they host Lexington at Yoe Gym.
