CISD looking for community input in superintendent search

A series of meeting will be held to collect community input on the hiring of a new superintendent on Feb. 20.

During a meeting Feb. 6 the board spoke with Texas Association of School Boards Executive Search Services about the schedule for hiring a new superintendent to replace Sapp, who will retire this summer.

TASB Executive Search Services was hired to facilitate the selection of the next superintendent.

As part of that process, TASB Executive Search Services will hold a series of three Community Involvement Sessions on Feb. 20.

The first session will be held at 4 p.m. in the Yoe High School Cafeteria and is for current school district employees only. Two additional sessions will be held at 5 and 6 p.m. in the Yoe High School Cafeteria and are open to the public.

The Cameron ISD School Board, along with TASB, invites all interested parties to attend one of these sessions and provide input on qualifications for a new superintendent.

Administrator contracts

The Cameron ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2019-20 school calendar and voted on renewing administrator contracts during a meeting Feb. 11.

Contracts for Yoe High Principal Brian Stork, Cameron Junior High/Elementary Principal Wendy Mahan, Yoe High Assistant Principal Christiana Graham, Cameron Junior High Assistant Principals James Henderson and Laci Rasberry, and Ben Milam Assistant Principal Beau Sanchez and Athletic Director Tommy Brashear were all renewed by a vote of 7-0. The board also voted 4-3 to renew the contract of Ben Milam Principal Terry Dawson.

The board voted 2-5 to not renew the contract of Assistant Superintendent Susan Pommerening.

The calendar for the 2019-20 school year was approved during the meeting. The calendar will be very similar to this school year beginning classes on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and ending on May 21. You can find the complete calendar on the Cameron ISD website at cameronisd.net.

The board also honored UIL winners from Cameron Junior High, Cameron Elementary and Ben Milam during the meeting. Cameron Elementary received first place in the district and Cameron Junior High brought home second place honors.

During Superintendent Allan Sapp’s report he discussed an active shooter drill that will take place at Yoe High in the near future. He said letters and reminders would be sent out to parents at a later date with more information. The drill will help to test response times internally at the high school.

In other business the board also: approved moving the March meeting date to March 18 due to Spring Break; approved TASB Update 112; and took no action on a possible land acquisition of 11 acres of the Vogelsang estate.
