Milam County Show begins on March 28

After months of work behind the scenes, the 2019 Milam County Junior Livestock Show will kick off next week.

Hundreds of FFA and 4-H Club youth are participating in the show at the Youth Exposition Building off downtown Cameron.

Events get under way March 28 with the new commercial heifer show and the baked goods show.

This year’s baking events will be held in the dining room at the Youth Expo building. Check in begins at 7:30 a.m. with judging beginning at 8:30 a.m. Awards will be handed out at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon.

The new commercial heifer show will kick off with judging at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 28. Commercial heifers must be in the barn by 8 p.m. on March 27.

At the conclusion of judging information will be available on the heifers for sale. Anyone wishing to buy can come take a look at the heifers around 2 p.m. on Thursday or any time throughout the weekend. The replacement heifer awards will be presented at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, with sale to follow at 11 a.m. 

Other livestock judging will begin at 5:30 on Thursday with poultry followed by judging for the market rabbits. 

Activities start early Friday with the market swine show at 9 a.m. and continue with goats at 12:30 p.m., lambs at 3 p.m., breeding beef heifers at 5 p.m. and steers at 6 p.m. 

The premium sale at 6 p.m. Saturday concludes the show. The Buyer’s Dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Bea’s Kitchen.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

THURSDAY, MARCH 28

7:30 A.M.  - Begin Check-in of Baked Goods.

8:30 A.M.  - Baked Goods must be checked in.

8:45 A.M. - Baked Goods showmanship.

10 A.M. - Market Animals and Breeding Beef Heifers may begin arriving.

11 A.M. – Judging of Commercial Heifers.

3 P.M.   - Begin weigh-in of rabbits.

4 P.M. - Check-in of Poultry.

4 P.M. - Begin weighing: (In this order) Swine, Goats, Lambs, & Steers.

5 P.M.  - Announce results of baked goods and showmanship.

5:30 P.M. – Judging of Market Broilers followed by Turkeys.

6:30 P.M. – Judging of Market Rabbits in Main Arena. Rabbits will be released at the conclusion of the rabbit show. Must release through superintendent.

 

FRIDAY, MARCH 29

9 A.M. – Judging of Market Swine.

12:30 P.M. – Judging of Market Goats.

3 P.M. – Judging of Market Lambs.  

5 P.M.  - Judging of Breeding Beef Heifers.

6 P.M.  – Judging of Market Steers.

7:30 P.M. - Release of all non-sale market animals and breeding beef heifers.

Market animals must present weigh card to superintendent for release.  

 

SATURDAY, MARCH 30

9-9:30 A.M. - All non-sale animals being placed on floor truck must be delivered to superintendents with weigh ticket.

9 a.m. – Barn open to buyers for viewing of Commercial Replacement Heifers.

10:30 a.m. – Commercial Replacement Heifer show exhibitor awards.

11 a.m. – Commercial Replacement Heifer Sale. 

Noon – All non-sale commercial animals must be removed.

4:30 P.M. - Buyers Dinner – Bee’s Kitchen.

5 P.M.  - Sale participants and Showmanship winners should be at barn.

6 P.M.  – Premium Livestock Sale.

8 P.M.  - Buyers after-sale reception. – Youth Expo Dining Room.

8 P.M. - All Livestock Removed.

 

SUNDAY, MARCH 31

1 P.M. - All exhibitors making the sale must return to the barn for clean-up. Each exhibitor must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
