Commissioners proclaim 4-H week in Milam County

Head. Heart. Hands. Health.
These are the four Hs in 4-H.
These four words are also in the 4-H pledge: “I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living - for my club, my community, my country, and my world.”
The local 4-H clubs, their members, and their leaders were recognized at Monday’s Milam County Commissioners Court meeting when the commissioners court proclaimed the week of Oct. 4-10 as National 4-H Week in Texas. Several 4-H Youth introduced themselves to the court.
Floyd Ingram IV, Milam County Extension Agent for Agriculture/Natural Resources, thanked the court for their continuing support of the 4-H Youth Development Program of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
According to the Extension Service, this year’s theme for National 4-H Week is “4-H Grows Here” featuring the various life skills that 4-H grows in youth.
Milam County Judge David Barkemeyer thanked the 4-H Youth and leaders for attending the court meeting, noting “We are very proud of all of you.”

As part of the national observance this year. retired Milam County Extension Agent Christine Holcombe will be posthumously inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 9 for her lifetime achievements and contributions to 4-H. Honored by the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program, Holcombe will be one of 16 people inducted during the ceremony to be held at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
