Cameron, Milano plan July 4th events

Fedral, state and local government agencies, financial insitutions and many private businesses will be closed Monday for the July 4 holiday. 

Cameron events set Sunday evening, July 3

The Cameron and Rockdale Chambers of Commerce are joining forces to host a fireworks display and festivities at Wilson-Ledbetter Park on Sunday evening, July 3. 

In the future, the Independence Day events will rotate between Cameron and Rockdale.

Beginning about 5 p.m., games for kids and other activities are planned around the American Legion Hut at the park, where Legion members will be grilling hot dogs. There will be bounce houses, music and a bicycle parade with prizes awarded for best dressed participants. Concessions will be available.

At dark, about 8:30 p.m., the fireworks display will begin. Cameron Chamber President Daniel Willie noted that organizers are working with the Cameron Fire Department on safety measures for the display, to be presented by a professional firm.

Milano celebrates July 4

“Celebrating the 4th Across America” is the theme for the City of Milano’s annual 4th of July parade at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Line up begins at 10 a.m. at the football field parking lot. The parade begins at 10:30. Plaques will be awarded at the Civic Center after the parade.

New this year, there will be booths available for arts, crafts, antiques, garage safes, etc. in the downtown area. The 10x10 spaces will be available for rent at $20 each. For more information and to reserve a booth, contact Mayor Roddy Gage at 254-541-2816.

Free hot dog lunch with all the trimmings will be served immediately following parade inside the Civic Center.
