Daniel D. McDaniel, 76, of Tulia, Texas formerly of Cameron, passed away Sunday morning, July 31, 2016 in Tulia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.Wednesday, Aug. 3, in the Central Church of Christ with Tim Johnson and Bob Colson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
Dan was born Feb. 2, 1940 in Happy to Fowler and Alberta McKay McDaniel. After graduation from Tulia High School in 1958 he attended Abilene Christian where he met and married Julia Brown in 1959. Dan attended Texas Tech majoring in Animal Husbandry.
In 1962 they moved to Cameron, where they bought land and developed it. Dan was one of the first in the area to plant coastal Bermuda grass. He farmed the land growing Rima Cotton and grain sorghum. He also ran stocker cattle on wheat and silage in the Little River Bottom. Horses and cattle were his passion. He also ranched in Clayton, NM and San Angelo. He was a farmer and rancher for several years.
Dan loved life making those around him laugh with his stories and quick wit. Dan served on many panels involving stocker cattle operations. He was always willing to share his knowledge of cattle feeding, taught to him by his father, to many young men in the cattle business.
He was most if all a follower of Jesus Christ and a member of the Cameron Church of Christ where he served as an elder and deacon. He was also a member of Central Church of Christ in Tulia.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Judy McDaniel of Tulia; three children, Juliann (husband John Howard) of Nashville, Tenn., Daniel McDaniel, Jr. of Reno, Nev. and Anthony McDaniel of Tulia; and four grandchildren: Andrew McDaniel, Rebecca McDaniel, Zach McDaniel and Carson McDaniel.
