Willie B. Mullinax of Cameron went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016. She was born to Nathan and Dena Ayers Elliott on July 16, 1925.
After graduating from C. H. Yoe High School in 1943, she was a secretary for the Milam County Extension Office. During World War II, her brother, J.K., encouraged his friend in the U.S. Air Force to write Willie B. back home. After the war, she married her pen pal, Alvin Mullinax, on March 17, 1946. God blessed them with 64 years together.
A life-long member of the First Christian Church, Willie B. spent countless hours assisting with church services, bible classes, visitation and fellowship dinners. She will always be remembered for her strong devotion to Christ and to her congregation.
Family and friends were Willie B.’s dearest treasures. She enjoyed hosting gatherings of all types from ice-cream socials to delicious dinners. Everyone looked forward to dessert, especially her chocolate meringue pie. Also known as “Granny B” and “Aunt B”, she loved family reunions, holidays, and community events.
Willie B. was a collector of people and stories. She never met a stranger and brought a smile to everyone she met. She loved everyone who was part of her life and lived a life of caring for others.
Loved ones who preceded her in death are her parents; husband; sisters, Pansy Tucker and Patsy Price; and brothers, Marvin (Jack), Ernest (Speck), and J.K. (Jake) Elliott.
Among those who will miss her are her daughter, Deandra Lawrence and husband David of Taylor; son, Alva Ray Mullinax and wife Donna of Concord, N.C.; grandchildren, Melissa Lawrence of Morgan’s Point, Brian Lawrence and wife Erica of Georgetown, Dena Liszt and husband Kory of Apex, N.C., and Clint Mullinax and wife Lauren of Winston-Salem, N.C.; great-grandchild Penny Liszt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation from 10 a.m. Saturday until service time.
